I often think about the conversations that have influenced me on my journey.   One particularly impactful conversation I heard was on a podcast by Ranveer Allahbadia with Dr A Velumani. Dr. Velumani's journey from a small village to achieving something remarkable embodies resilience, focus, and simplicity. One thing he said that struck a chord with me was, "Don’t complain about what you don’t have. Make the best of what you do have."   These words aren't just advice – they're a way of life. It's about accepting where you are and finding the strength within yourself to create something extraordinary. When we stop complaining and start creating, we realize that we are capable of more than we ever imagined. Ultimately, it’s not about how much we have, but how much we make of what we have. And that's where true success lies.   As I reflect on the wisdom shared in this conversation, I'm reminded of the saying: "Sometimes, the most powerful lessons come from the simplest words," like those from Dr. Velumani.   1. Start where you are, with what you have. 2. Focus on what you can do today. 3. Turn challenges into opportunities. 4. Keep things simple. 5. Lead with empathy. 6. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. 7. Stay true to your values. 8. Make the most of what’s in front of you. 9. Believe in your potential. 10. Recently there was a write up in a leading business daily around how GCCs are tapping into the talent bred by the other IT Service providers. Interestingly Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are growing quickly, moving beyond support roles to take on R&D, innovation, and strategic global operations. This has created a strong demand for skilled professionals in AI, data science, and cybersecurity, putting GCCs in direct competition with IT service providers. With salaries for roles like data engineers soaring every year, GCCs are turning to the talent strategies that IT service providers have used successfully for years. IT service providers have a strong record of attracting top engineering talent by offering diverse projects, career growth, and specialized training. GCCs are adopting these methods, including high-value certifications, flexible work options, and AI-based hiring tools to better understand talent trends and improve recruitment. At the same time, GCCs and IT providers are working together through Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) models, where providers set up and run GCCs until they’re ready to operate on their own. Examples like Sanofi’s expansion in Hyderabad, which aims to double its workforce by 2030, are a strong indicator of what to expect over the next decade. It will be interesting to see who takes the lead in this talent war ! #gcc

AKS Bullet Byte #2 Peter Thiel in his book Zero to One sets the premise - "The act of creation is singular, as is the moment of creation." "Every moment in Business happens only once. The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren’t learning from them." It’s easier to copy a model than to make something new. Doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1 and the result is something fresh and strange. Progress can take one of two forms. Horizontal or extensive progress means copying things that work— going from 1 to n. Horizontal progress is easy to imagine because we already know what it looks like. Vertical or intensive progress means doing new things—going from 0 to 1. Vertical progress is harder to imagine because it requires doing something nobody else has ever done. If you take one typewriter and build 100, you have made horizontal progress. If you have a typewriter and build a word processor, you have made vertical progress. At the macro level, the single word for horizontal progress is globalization—taking things that work somewhere and making them work everywhere. The single word for vertical, 0 to 1 progress is technology. What do you think start-up mindset is/should be like - one focussing on Vertical Progress or one delving on Horizontol. Technology or Globalisation - ofcourse both are required in an economy but that is not the question. Think about it. How is this relevant to career building ? Chief HR officer roles in India Inc have experienced significant turnover, as revealed by a recent analysis by Xpheno. Out of 37,000 C-suite movements, the study found that 1 in 10 CXOs changed jobs in the year ending June. Specifically, the role of chief human resources officer (CHRO) recorded the highest turnover at 20%, followed by chief sales officers (CSOs) at 18% and chief product officers (CPOs) at 15%. According to SV Nathan, CEO of Visara Partners, the role of the COO is becoming increasingly vital alongside the CHRO. Nathan highlighted the evolving responsibilities within organizations, stressing the governance function of the COO and the strategic insights provided by the CHRO. Moreover, the CFO, traditionally focused on finance and accounting, now plays a critical role in areas such as M&A, corporate finance, and investment management. Stakeholders' impatience is identified as a key factor driving these executive departures. Seeking change at the CXO level as a potential solution, stakeholders trigger disruptions that can take at least eight months to stabilize, posing challenges and causing lengthy and disruptive transition periods for organizations. #leadershiphiring #C-suite talents #executivesearch
