I just released the second episode of my podcast. I wrote this episode also, and it’s called “Liquid Courage”. It’s about 10 minutes long, and I added some effects that you might like. In a world where fear has been eliminated, courage becomes a curse. In this episode of ‘Paradoxxed’, a new designer drug called “Liquid Courage” promises to erase fear itself, offering both soldiers and civilians the chance to live without limits. But as it spreads from the battlefield to the streets, society unravels in the wake of fearless chaos. Through the eyes of Lieutenant Heather Gotlieb, discover the dark price of a world without fear, and question what keeps us human when danger loses its sting. Listen to explore the chilling consequences of erasing fear, in a journey that will leave you questioning what true courage really means. This is… Paradoxxed.

Got 4 likes (🫣) for my post on Carl Jung—can we beat that with Diogenes of Sinope? I know, I’m not making things easy. Nobody knows who this guy is… So, chances are, this post will get buried in your endless feed, with a hypothetical minus 10 likes (𝗂𝖿 𝖫𝗂𝗇𝗄𝖾𝖽𝖨𝗇 𝖺𝗅𝗅𝗈𝗐𝖾𝖽 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍). But guess what? We can beat the odds! I resurrected Diogenes of Sinope and teleported him to 2024 for a special 15-minute conversation in my podcast studio. For those unfamiliar, Diogenes of Sinope (404 BCE – 323 BCE) is a Greek philosopher and one of the most famous figures of the Cynic school of philosophy. Known for his unconventional lifestyle (he was living in a barrel), his wit and defiance of social norms, he is the ultimate critic of society. In this episode, we discussed #polarization in modern society, #climate, and #AI. Let’s just say Diogenes isn’t known for being particularly kind or diplomatic. The conversation ended up being pretty cynical… “𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 ...? 𝘈 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘭, 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘥𝘢𝘻𝘻𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘥! 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦? 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬. Our final episode of Season 6 of the Crazy Town podcast dropped yesterday. It is likely this will be the final season structured this way (focusing on a singular theme) and there's a possibility that we retire the podcast altogether. Very mixed emotions for me right now. We spent the season exploring a number of isms, looking at them through the lens of Marvin Harris's Cultural Materialism, and how to escape them. Isms like: #industrialism, #consumerism, #urbanism, #speedism, #technologyism, #globalism, #growthism, #capitalism, #imperialism, #individualism, #humanocentrism, #extremism, and #otherism. Lots of interesting learnings, suggestions, and laughs along the way. But in this final episode, we came to the conclusion that the final ism to escape is escapism itself. (Cue FDR's "nothing to fear but fear itself" speech.) A big thanks to the team Post Carbon Institute for their work on this podcast, Melody Allison for her great production work, our volunteers, listeners, supporters and, of course, my co-hosts Jason Bradford and Rob Dietz. https://lnkd.in/g7Wbjubg

Do we have ANY free will? I was listening to a podcast with Niel Degrasse Tyson last night and it was centered around if we have any free will? His guest was Robert Sapolsky and his central argument was every decision we make can be traced back (if we look hard enough and long enough) to some previous event or condition that MADE us make that decision or choice. What we think is free will - e.g. should I have vanilla icecream or strawberry icecream is a result of our past experiences and "free will" is an illusion. While I am still digesting that, what I took from an work perspective is that every customer interaction we are having and every decision they are making is based on their previous interactions, experiences, knowledge and exposure. And if we understand that, we are able to influence the outcome. Which is why curiosity is such a critical element of what we do and discovery is nothing but operationalized curiosity in the #presales world. So we have to stay curious, do discovery, understand the question behind the question, ask why, why, why, why, why and we will be setting ourselves and our teams up for much better outcomes. If you want to listen to the podcast: here is the link: https://lnkd.in/g8_KATWf In fact, even whether you "choose" to listen to it or not, is not really really in your control 😀 PS. The Startalk podcast series is EXCELLENT and highly recommended! #presales #solutionconsultant #salesengineering #discovery #sellbetter

Daniel Kahnman gave us insight into the two systems of the brain, System 1 (fast, intuitive, automatic) and System 2 (slow, analytical, deliberate) revolutionized our understanding of decision-making. He shares about how much joy he experiences in analyzing his own thinking processes and discovering all the ways he could be wrong. “But being wrong doesn’t make me less than,” he explains. Thinking Fast and Slow has been a real gift to read. You might enjoy this Hidden Brain episode with portions of two interviews with Daniel Kahnman himself.

You’re anxious because you don’t know what you want for your future. When you know what you don't want... it doesn't matter if you are NOT clear on what you want. You'll figure it out. AI making work optional will be a massive blessing & curse. Your potential is determined by how much uncertainty you're willing to embrace. People who use it to fuel their passions will thrive. Move towards wanting less → create space to do more. "Freedom from vs Freedom to" - Naval Ravikant Freedom from debt. Freedom from social media. Freedom from a set schedule. Freedom from a job you dislike. Freedom from material possessions. Freedom from other people's expectations. My Media team is lucky, they’re the first to hear wisdom from storytelling leaders filming for the GROWIN podcast. What would be your advice to GenZ preparing for life? P.S. Which 'freedom' from the list do you want? Yes, you! P.P.S. Like, Repost if you think someone would love this! __________________ Follow me - for leadership stories that give you an edge. Did you know that 60% of jobs existing today in America did not exist in 1940? I knew it was a high number but not that high. Freakanomics Radio is one of my must listen podcasts and this episode, which I listened to on my drive to work, is another very interesting one on what we do. Not what we do hour-on-hour, but what we do to earn and income. It's a fascinating look into the difference in necessity and how things change, and, very interestingly why we have a 40 hour ( or in some cases a 60 hour) work week. A must lesson. Let me know what you think post listen!
