Daniel Kahnman gave us insight into the two systems of the brain, System 1 (fast, intuitive, automatic) and System 2 (slow, analytical, deliberate) revolutionized our understanding of decision-making. He shares about how much joy he experiences in analyzing his own thinking processes and discovering all the ways he could be wrong. “But being wrong doesn’t make me less than,” he explains. Thinking Fast and Slow has been a real gift to read. You might enjoy this Hidden Brain episode with portions of two interviews with Daniel Kahnman himself.

🚨 Breaking News: A Market Illusion? 🚨 We live in a world where news breaks every second, but does breaking news really drive the markets, or is it just an illusion we’ve all bought into? 📉📈 In my latest podcast episode, I explore the fascinating connection between news and market psychology, inspired by the groundbreaking work of Victor Niederhoffer. While headlines create waves of emotional reactions, true market movements are driven by something deeper—human psychology, biases, and contrarian thinking. 🧠 Key takeaways: ✅ Why breaking news often misleads traders. ✅ How markets digest news faster than we can react. ✅ The importance of breaking free from the news addiction and moving towards intelligent, data-driven decision-making. If you’re curious about why markets move the way they do and how to make smarter financial decisions, tune in to this 10-minute podcast where I also share insights from my book How Good is Greed! Warren G. Bennis once said that, "Emotional intelligence, more than any other factor, more than I.Q. or expertise, accounts for 85% to 90% of success at work... I.Q. is a threshold competence. You need it, but it doesn't make you a star. Emotional intelligence can." EI is one of those chameleon-esque qualities that can prove powerful whichever way its owner decides to use it. In our latest episode Bhavna Awasthy (PCC -ICF) and I explore the impact of the Dark side of Emotional Intelligence. Do give it a listen and let us know your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/gd-YM-_S

How much do you trust your gut? It might not always feel appropriate to say 'I am going with my gut', or 'I'm trusting my intuition', particularly at work. We can often feel we need data to back up the decisions we make for them to be credible and more risk free, but making decisions on data alone kind of denies what it is to be human! There is a science to intuition, it isn't just mumbo jumbo. And I am thankful for that! Let's nurture it. Amrit explores this topic on his latest podcast which you can find here: https://lnkd.in/ewQNryY2 I will write to this topic in next weeks blog!

Insightful episode from Hidden Brain’s “Innovation 2.0” series! It’s valuable to understand the social science that informs our sales, marketing, and workplace relationships. Also, it kind of validates one of my favorite quotes “Those that get advantage, take advantage”.

The question that obsesses me: how do we determine the keystone skill or skills, that if improved, will have outsized impact on our craft? There is one thing, or a small set of things, that should be focused on. Figuring those things out is a major task, and deeply challenging. Cal and Ryan discuss this in the last 15 minutes of this episode: https://lnkd.in/eZVJrAcE

We all have an inner voice in our head and if we let it, that voice “…zooms us in on the things we are concerned about… whether it be whether we belong or whether we are making grades or whether we’ve been rejected….you lose that ability to see the bigger picture…”. On this episode of Hidden Brain, there is an interesting discussion about Befriending Your Inner Voice.

The time is now to shift out of a scarcity mindset that has been running our lives and shaping the planet for millennia, to stop imprinting the past on the present, and to allow a new paradigm to emerge - a new way of being, thinking, relating, and doing that is truly the only path that ever mattered - that is life-affirming, aligned with LIFE itself. Indeed, this paradigm is not “new”. It has billions of years of evolutionary wisdom and experience baked into it. We’ve just forgotten about it, lost touch with it, and disconnected ourselves from it for far too long (something my mentor Giles Hutchins calls the “illusion of separation”). Indigenous societies are an exception as they have maintained the essence of interconnectedness with nature. This podcast with Zach Bush, MD is really worth a listen; especially as we navigate the challenges we are facing today and news that may make us want to throw in the towel and give up hope. Dr. Zach Bush explains why we need to finally cut ties with the scarcity mindset - the one that breeds our abstract notion that we are separate from nature - and to embrace the abundance of all that life has to offer. He brilliantly weaves together aspects of biology, cosmology, evolution, genetics, psychology, human development, and big history, among many other disciplines. Buckle up and get ready to have your mind blown. As you listen to him take you far “out there” and deep “in here”, see if you can tune into his wisdom with an open mind, notice any uncomfortable feelings and contradictions to your worldviews that come up for you, reflect on why these feelings and thoughts are showing up and where they may be based in notions of certainty, linear cause and effect, reductionism, mechanistic materialism, control, ego, shame, guilt, and fear. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be willing to let go of some of what feels comfortable and familiar, and embrace the beauty of what’s possible. P.S. This is not about being right or wrong. Feel free to challenge these thoughts and perspectives. I’d love to hear them here below. I don’t fundamentally believe everything he says, but I am fascinated by his wisdom and curious about his vision and call for humanity.

What are your values? How do you honor them? These questions are recurrent in my coaching sessions. They are essential to kick off any transformational journey towards the person each of us wants to become. Values is the topic of this No Stupid Questions podcast - https://lnkd.in/dayZnPeX - This is a podcast I enjoy and recommend given the energy and the breadth of topics that Angela Duckworth and Mike Maughan present in a dynamic informal way. There are many value inventories, for example the one from Shalom Schwartz mentioned in the podcast https://lnkd.in/ddRDUSWp or the more extensive from Brené Brown https://lnkd.in/dUADgEjz Or maybe just think of a time you were at your very best… Think about the values that resonate with you and reflect where you are today with them… what arises? What actions will you take to become who you want ro become? It is a daunting no regrets journey. Bon voyage!
