April is Rebuilding Month, and we’re in the business of building – and rebuilding – concrete segmental bridges. We’ve got an educational post for you to celebrate, and today’s topic is Precast Segmental Duct Couplers! Precast segmental duct couplers have been introduced in conjunction with the industry’s overall effort to extend the lifespan of segmental bridges. Coupler assemblies ensure water and air tightness of the tendon duct across the segment-to-segment interface and prevent grout from crossing over into nearby adjacent ducts. Current post-tensioning suppliers use either specifically designed compressible gaskets in conjunction with mating hubs or positive connection mechanisms that extend across the segment joint to achieve the required seal. How Millwork Companies Really Operate: Estimating: "Here’s a bid that should work... assuming we don’t need to build the project on top of an active volcano or invent a new element to make it happen." Design: "I’ve drawn it perfectly! Everything fits like a puzzle!" Production: "These dimensions don’t exist in the real world… unless we’re building in a parallel universe where physics takes vacations." Project Management: "Can we have it installed by yesterday? Also, the GC just moved the deadline up by a week just because he enjoys watching us slowly descend into madness" Install Team: "Wait, so you're telling me this 20-foot wall panel has to fit through a 10-foot door? Cool, cool… does anyone have a shrink ray lying around?" It’s like a relay race where instead of handing off a baton, we’re all passing around a frantic smile and a silent prayer. By the time install rolls around, we’re all basically superheroes - except instead of flying, we’re dodging meltdowns, performing miracles, and bending the laws of space-time just to make things work.
