Your coaching advice clashes with company leadership. How can you navigate this conflict effectively?
Always respect the company’s position, but coaching is for the individual. The key is to align as much of the individual’s skills and talent with the organization’s objectives and goals. If there are areas that they don’t align, that doesn’t mean the coaching stops. That’s where the individuals growth can be tested until: 1) The two come into alignment. Or 2) They part ways for the better of both parties.

How do you become a successful outside sales leader and mentor?
In my experience teams desire regular feedback, but fear is the barrier between receiving it and giving it. One way to give feedback to them is to first ask for it from them. “What’s your thoughts on how I can help you achieve [x]?” or “Where can I come alongside you with [x]?”. Sometimes it’s an admission of misunderstanding like “I’ve really missed the mark on [x] and I don’t want to tell myself an untrue story about why you haven’t met this goal, can you help me understand where you feel the most unprepared or lacking?”

How do you become a successful outside sales leader and mentor?
The fundamental principle behind setting clear goals & expectations is that your team has a target that is both measurable and challenging. It shows them that they are capable of more and that they have a way of achieving it. Accountability at each step is the key to removing frustration from where they believe they are and where YOU believe they are. The goal of the leader is to then bridge that gap with efficiency and empathy.

Yesterday was a really neat moment as I am learning all the nuances and things so I can make a difference for my team members doing my new role. The entire onboard experience has been something that has been such high level and caliber that I have never seen before. So many people are doing the same Outer Leadership things for me that I do every day in terms of bring the same value to others based on the I+M+P+A+C=T math formula. We were going through strategy and there was a lot of information download for me to pick up during this session. Me being a new person could have easily sat back and let these people take the lead knowing my level of contribution would be a little different being with the team only for 2 weeks. One of my team members put together a presentation for the region that I support given I was learning. It would have been a really easy to sit back and let him run through information on my behalf given the timing of the situation. But I was not going to let that happen..... So during all the information I was studying all the presentation prepared with 100% commitment so when it came time to talk about my portion that I could deliver something. My goal behind this was two simple words in Outer Leadership. Action + Connection It was my goal to make as much effort to use the time to learn everything I can based on effort and didn't want any excuses made for me. And when I presented my focus was then also using this moment to create Connection by building community among the team knowing that they would step in for anything I didn't know at the time. The entire day was a level of Outer Leadership based on those 2 words doing both at the same time by everyone in the room that I had not seen before... 1.) We were focused on delivering results based on strategy, vision, planning, and acumen. 2.) We create community based on strong EQ, team work, relationship building, communication, and empathy. That level of power was infectious and it was clear I felt like a Lion among Lions....and this group is really special..... It was also fun walking through the math formula afterwards at dinner to explain WHY it was so effective too using The Lion Attitude system! --- 👋 Hi, I'm Kirby and my passion is reinventing leadership in the AEC field!
