Your Authority in Concrete Segmental Bridge Construction
About us
The American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit organization to provide a forum where owners, designers, constructors, and suppliers can meet to further refine current design, construction and construction management procedures, and evolve new techniques that will advance the quality and use of concrete segmental bridges. ASBI is a unique organization in that all components of the bridge construction industry are included as members.

We’re a few weeks removed from the 36th Annual ASBI Convention and Committee Meetings, and we’d like to thank all of our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors for their attendance, support and interest. 331 individuals made the trip to Atlanta, making this year’s conference the largest since the COVID-19 pandemic. Convention feedback showed attendees greatly enjoyed this year’s slate of speakers, so a large “thank you” goes to everyone who took time to prepare and deliver a number of important and enlightening topics during the event. Several of these topics will be expounded upon during 2025 webinars, so stay tuned to our social media channels for future webinar topics. One final thank you goes to our 2024 Convention Sponsors. Without the support of AECOM, Arup, GM2 Associates, Inc., H&H, HNTB, Modjeski and Masters, Parsons Corporation, RS&H, WSP, ACCIONA, McNary Bergeron & Johannesen, Superior Construction, TYLin, Flatiron Construction and HDR, we would be unable to pull off this event. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for Oct. 27-29, 2025 for the 37th Annual ASBI Convention and Committee Meetings, which will be hosted in Bellevue, Washington.

Why segmental? It’s a question our organization gets asked often. Since the first long-span segmental bridge was built in 1973, more than 450 segmental bridges have been built in the U.S., and concrete segmental bridges have been used for highway, transit, rail and pedestrian use. With numerous advantages and a range of construction methods, segmental concrete bridges are economical, durable and aesthetically pleasing while providing minimum impact to traffic and the surrounding environment both during and after construction. Get the 101 on concrete segmental with our recently updated materials below.
