Making Social Better and Building Purposeful Brands Along the Way We are super excited to have been partners with Festival of Media this year. At their North American Awards in NYC at GroupM's lovely offices our Co-CEOs, Ashley Cooksley and Linn Frost, hosted a panel all about what we love most - Making Social Better! Joined by the fantastic Aretha Yorke Sabeng, Marketing Director at L'Oréal and Tatiana Canessa, Innovation Activation Marketing at Johnson & Johnson the session can be viewed via the link below: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKPe_g2R Our key takeaways: 1️⃣ Social Media is the new marketing funnel Tatiana reminded us that social media now spans the entire customer journey, from awareness to conversion. The key is creating tailored, meaningful experiences at each stage. 2️⃣ Community is key to brand purpose Aretha highlighted how brands can authentically connect with their audiences by tapping into the power of communities. Listening, engaging, and learning from these groups can create innovation and build loyalty. 3️⃣ Safety and inclusion must be a priority As Linn said, brands have a responsibility to create safe, inclusive spaces on social media. Whether through proactive community management or advocating for mental wellbeing, we can all play a part in making social a force for good. 4️⃣ Don’t restrict On the topic of social media use for younger audiences, the panel agreed: education beats restriction. By equipping young users with the right tools and knowledge, we can empower them to navigate social spaces safely while maintaining creativity and connection. #MakeSocialBetter

Following her recent appearance on the BBC, our global co-CEO, Linn Frost was asked by Campaign UK to expand on her thoughts around the dual nature of Social: a powerful tool for inspiration and connection, yet also a source of harm, distortion, and risk. Our key takeaways: 1️⃣ Social media acts as both a reflection and distortion of society, amplifying positive aspects like activism and creativity while exposing darker issues such as trolling, echo chambers, and harmful challenges. 2️⃣ Brands play a critical role in influencing social platforms, setting standards for content, and contributing positively through thoughtful campaigns and partnerships, as demonstrated by Norwich City FC and Virgin Money. 3️⃣ While age restrictions are a step toward safeguarding younger users, their effectiveness is limited due to underage users bypassing these measures, emphasising the need for broader solutions like proactive moderation and education. 4️⃣ An approach involving brands, platforms, governments, and individuals is necessary to ensure a safer and more positive online environment, leveraging influence, education, and regulation. Our Co-CEO, Ashley Cooksley spoke with @digiday last week discussing the social media ban for teens in Australia. “Research tells us that prolonged use of platforms like Instagram and TikTok correlates with heightened anxiety, depression and body image concerns among teens,” Cooksley said. “But they also provide unparalleled spaces for young people to express and shape their identities, connect across distances, and join in global conversations.” See the full article below 👇
As Australia sets a social media ban for teens next year, creators and agencies are refining their creator content strategies and targeting practices there as it could impact billions of dollars in creator revenue. “It’s a significant shift that could redefine how brands engage with audiences and how social platforms operate,” said Jessica White, vp of creative and media at digital agency DEPT®. “And that’s also why U.S. content creators need to pay attention, as this will mean that they need to proactively shift how they approach content creation and audience targeting.” In this piece by Antoinette S., we also speak to Jasmine Enberg of EMARKETER, and Ashley Cooksley of Social Element.
