The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a final rule to update the definition of the nutrient content claim “healthy.” According to the FDA, there is an ever-growing crisis of preventable, diet-related chronic diseases in the U.S. that requires immediate action. The updated “healthy” claim marks an important step in fulfilling the FDA’s nutrition priorities. It is part of a whole-of-government approach to addressing this crisis. This rule will help ensure that consumers can access more complete, accurate, and up-to-date nutrition information on food labels. #foodsafety #healthy #FDA #sqf #cics https://lnkd.in/gJacyMaT

As holiday baking begins, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reminds consumers to avoid eating raw cookie dough, cake batter, and other uncooked flour-based products. While many know the dangers of raw eggs and Salmonella, fewer realize that raw flour can harbor pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella. #foodsafety #FDA #sqf #cics https://lnkd.in/gYqzmjUx

The HHS and USDA are nearing the publication of another round of Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The only question may be whether the new guidelines will be issued before the Biden-Harris administration departs. The 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s Scientific Report has been submitted to the Secretaries of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is now available online to the public. #USDA #HHS #foodsafety #sqf #cics #dietaryguidelines https://lnkd.in/gpeqPS_Z

The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has produced a book to teach children about food safety. The book “Luis’ and Maya’s Adventure in the Shrinking Lab: Looking for Clues in the Kitchen” features Luis and Maya as two schoolchildren who visit the BfR shrinking lab, where they meet Fred, the friendly bacillus. The trio follow the trail of a bacterial villain that leads them directly to the crime scene – the dark refrigerator. Together with the characters, children learn about kitchen hygiene and food safety. #foodsafety #sqf #cics https://lnkd.in/g3ikcjby

Why do we want to do this? A risk-based approach to food safety is about allocating what are often very limited resources to the biggest problems and those that we can do the most about. Attribution informs those decisions at the large scale and also for targeted risk management decisions, and this kind of work can be used to evaluate whether or not the interventions that we do undertake are effective. #foodborneillness #WorldHealthOrganization #WHO #FDA #foodsafety #sqf #cics #foodbornediseases https://lnkd.in/giW7z926
