Just as music begins with the song, music advocacy begins with the songwriter. Using the Academy’s voice in Washington and statehouses across the country, the Wing enlists its songwriter and composer members to fight to ensure fair compensation for every use.

Songwriter advocacy led to the passage of the Music Modernization Act. This historic legislation created the Mechanical Licensing Agency (MLC), a new collective that will pay songwriters and publishers digital mechanical royalties.
