The issue of fuel pricing and emissions has arisen once more, as Viking Line announces its first half financial results, which saw a downturn in sales and passenger revenue, compared to the same period in 2023. As the company targets a similar pre-tax result to last year in the wake of the "weakter than expected" first six months of the year, President & CEO Jan Hanses believes action must be taken on making reducing emissions a viable option for businesses. YILPORT Oslo Moves Towards Zero Emissions with Electric Terminal Tractor Tests Throughout the summer, YILPORT Oslo conducted a test run of an electric terminal tractor in collaboration with Maritime Truck, an Oslo-based leader in the rental of forklifts and terminal tractors, taking a significant step towards a greener future. The test run results were impressive: The electric terminal tractor performed excellently, completing full shifts without any need for recharging. Following this initial success, the tractor is expected to return to YILPORT Oslo in early 2025, when Maritime Truck will carry out additional operational tests during the winter. Currently, Maritime Truck has a total of 13 diesel-powered terminal tractors in use at YILPORT Oslo. When replaced with electric machines, the terminal will reduce diesel consumption by 180,000 liters per year. With this transition from diesel to an energy-efficient, electric fleet, the entire chain of tractors will operate more sustainably, which aligns with the Port of Oslo’s ambitious goal to become emission-free on land by 2025 and positions YILPORT Oslo as one of the world’s 1st zero-emission container terminals. #yilportoslo #yilportnordic #yilportholding #YILDIRIMGroup #gamechanger #Sustainability #ZeroEmission

Wärtsilä secures China’s largest-ever methanol newbuild order Technology group Wärtsilä will supply the methanol-fuelled auxiliary engines for five new container vessels for COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd and seven new container vessels for Orient Overseas Container Line. Each vessel will operate with three 8-cylinder and two 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 32M engines. This is the Chinese maritime sector’s largest order to date for methanol-fuelled newbuild vessels. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in December 2023. To complement the solution, the ships will be equipped with the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust cleaning systems and alternators. These will be supplied through Wärtsilä’s joint venture company, CWEC (Shanghai) Company Ltd. (‘CWEC’). The Wärtsilä 32M methanol-fuelled engine has received type approval certificates from several classification societies around the world. Studies have shown that using methanol instead of heavy fuel oil can cut CO₂ and other GHG emissions. ALTERNATIVE FUELS: Auramarine Ltd wins methanol fuel supply system order for TUI Cruises’ vessel Auramarine has won an order from Meyer Turku shipyard for a #methanol fuel supply system and associated equipment for the Mein Schiff 7 #cruisevessel owned by TUI Cruises. With a length of 316m and a width of 35.8m, Mein Schiff 7 can accommodate almost 2,900 passengers and 1,000 crew members. The cruise ship will be powered by low-emission marine diesel oil with a sulfur content of 0.1%, and a shore power connection for almost #zeroemission operation in port (which accounts for 40% of its operating time).
