What do you think of this thesis, related to Cagan's feature versus product teams thinking: 1) in order to start a natural transition from a feature team to a product team the first thing that you should start doing is measuring impact of the changes you make in the most objective way possible. This will lead to a sequence of events that will - for the right reasons start a transition to a product team. Probably not a controversial statement - but, here's an interesting thought experiment: 2) could it also be that if you operate like a product team and start measuring properly a transition to a feature team follows - for the right reasons?

Don’t Marry Your Ideas: Face the Truth About Your Product Stats As product leaders, it’s crucial to face the truth about the state of our products. Sometimes we fail to acknowledge that our product isn’t what users need, there’s strong competition, a tricky monetization model, or scalability issues. Perhaps users love it but won’t pay a penny for it—getting users to pay is the ultimate validation. Having 2 or 3 users occasionally paying (most likely friends and team members) doesn’t count. There must be a sustainable pipeline of customers, even if there are bottlenecks or challenges. A strong need should be obvious from day one. Acknowledging failure early on is much better than complimenting yourself, your team, and stakeholders, leading to what you know eventually won’t work. Don’t marry your ideas—especially those you’ve invested a lot of effort into, even if they’re not originally yours. We often become too attached to our ideas, but sometimes letting go is the best path forward. Unlock the secrets of true team collaboration in B2B tech leadership. Let's dive in! 🚀 Imagine building a house with three architects who never communicate. Disaster, right? That's what it's like when the Product Manager, Design Lead and Tech Lead don't collaborate effectively. Marty Cagan in his book "Empowered" provides the most crystal clear definition of this collaboration - finding a solution that is feasible, usable, and drives value for the business & the customer. Now, here's the challenge. In most companies, these three roles report to different leadership. So how do we foster a culture of unity? Especially in today’s ever changing & highly competitive B2B tech landscape? Drawing from my own experiences, I've discovered it boils down to three game-changing factors: 1: Trust - If you've chosen your team wisely, you are surrounded by highly competent individuals who are experts in their field. I find it important to understand why design or tech is advocating a specific solution, but ultimately, I trust in their expertise. 2: Safe Spaces - Sticking to the premise of competent individuals, there will be (as they should) disagreements, and discussions. Create an environment where conflicts are allowed, but ensure it never gets personal. Keep in mind, we are all working towards the same end goal to deliver value to our customers and business. 3: Lead By Example - As leaders, we have to truly model the behavior we wish our teams to demonstrate. Establish working relationships with your peers on the foundations of trust and transparency, setting a path for your team to follow.
