Last week, we were honored to welcome Martin Gerster, member of the German Federal Parliament, and his employee Maria Brumme, to our headquarters in Laupheim, Germany. During his visit, we engaged in meaningful discussions about the significant impact biotech companies like Rentschler Biopharma have on society, the economy, and the community – as key producers of life-saving biopharmaceuticals. The lab tour offered an insightful glimpse into the complex journey of biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing, from concept to market. We were delighted to have our Chief Operating Officer, Christiane Bardroff; Head of Process Science and Analytical Science, Thilo Grob; and Global Head of Communications, Dr. Latika Bhonsle-Deeng, host this meaningful exchange. Biopharmaceutical products are often produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell cultures, which release retrovirus-like particles and are vulnerable to infections by adventitious viruses. Therefore, it is a regulatory requirement that downstream purification steps for biopharmaceuticals can remove viruses from feedstocks. In his article “Mechanistic modeling of minute virus of mice surrogate removal by anion exchange chromatography in micro scale”, published in Journal of Chromatography A, Lukas Döring, our Doctoral Researcher Process Science – in collaboration with Johannes Winderl, our Process Manager Process Science, Matthias Kron, our Senior Director Process Science Downstream of Rentschler Biopharma and Professor Jürgen Hubbuch from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology – discusses how the virus clearance of a MVM mock virus particle by Q Sepharose FF resin can be accurately described by mechanistic modeling.

Rentschler Biopharma hat dies direkt geteilt
Following a busy networking lunch, we returned for the next fireside chat here at #AdvancedTherapiesIntegrates. From lab to market: The CGT biotech journey. Robert Panting, General Manager, ATMP, Rentschler Biopharma spoke with Catriona Crombie, Head of Rare Disease at LifeArc on her thoughts on the approaches needed for success in the ever more challenging biotech journey. Asked for her key takeaways or advice for someone thinking about founding or in the early stages of a new biotech, Catriona responded: "I think what you need in order to be successful is to be both creative and resilient." "You've got to be able to take some of the knocks. Then think, how do I fix this? How do we get this better? And think creatively, because those that do, are the people who really succeed."
