𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 We’re reflecting back at our recent event: Advanced Therapies Integrates 2024, and what a fantastic day it was! This year’s event spotlighted the transformative potential of advanced therapies, tackling the industry’s big questions – from funding and accessibility, to scaling innovation and bridging skills gaps. Through inspiring fireside chats and thought-provoking panel sessions, the day’s discussions reflected a sector on the brink of transformation. Whether it was the game-changing potential of digital tools, the power of patient-led innovation, or the urgency of addressing workforce skills and funding gaps, one message rang loud and clear: now is the time for action. Thanks to Matthew Durdy, Nicole Mather, James Kelly, Stephen Ward, Jeanette Evans, Robert Panting, Catriona Crombie, James FRY and Ian M. Parnham, PhD, for chairing some insightful panel discussions and to all the contributing panellists and speakers too for their valuable input. Dive into our event summary to explore the key takeaways and insights from this year’s event: https://lnkd.in/eErc6WuJ Speakers and delegates alike brought bold ideas and pragmatic solutions, leaving attendees with not just hope but a clear sense of direction. For many early-stage startups, finding the right research environment can be a significant hurdle. Traditional lab spaces often come with large upfront costs and long-term commitments, making them less accessible, especially if you’re not part of a university ecosystem. And in markets like London, the challenge only grows. Kadans Science Partner’s London Innovation Centre offers a unique solution: individual workspaces within a shared Co-Working lab or small private labs that can be rented flexibly, providing affordable, adaptable environments for ideas to thrive. Check out a blog post on how Kadans is investing in the development of the life science ecosystem in the UK: https://lnkd.in/eJ9PKrjt

"Skills underpin everything we do as an industry." In the last session of the day at #AdvancedTherapiesIntegrates 2024 - it's an upskill battle - the panellists are discussing creative approaches to addressing the skills gap in the industry. From reskilling to apprenticeship schemes and training (with a big focus on transferable skills), there are many options to explore and different ways to start taking the next steps. There's a lot of ground to cover in the last hour of the day! Facilitated by Ian M. Parnham, PhD, Skills Programme Lead, Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult with input from James Kusena PhD from MFX, Mustafa Munye from Complement Therapeutics, Saerah Khan from Rentschler Biopharma, and Anji Miller Ph.D CLP RTTP from LifeArc.

Following a busy networking lunch, we returned for the next fireside chat here at #AdvancedTherapiesIntegrates. From lab to market: The CGT biotech journey. Robert Panting, General Manager, ATMP, Rentschler Biopharma spoke with Catriona Crombie, Head of Rare Disease at LifeArc on her thoughts on the approaches needed for success in the ever more challenging biotech journey. Asked for her key takeaways or advice for someone thinking about founding or in the early stages of a new biotech, Catriona responded: "I think what you need in order to be successful is to be both creative and resilient." "You've got to be able to take some of the knocks. Then think, how do I fix this? How do we get this better? And think creatively, because those that do, are the people who really succeed."

What's stopping us? What's holding the industry back in delivering ATMPs at scale to patients? The panel session entitled: Make Them Better at #AdvancedTherapiesIntegrates delved deep into this question: ➡️ Consider the phase - we're at the beginning still (think mobile phones 35 years ago!) 🤝 Collaboration - including finding common/best systems and commercial niches 💻 Digitalisation - how can it support us and where are the low hanging fruits (automation in data collection and exchange, for example) 💪 Resilience in the supply chain - and its link to visibility 📈 Risk - and how to manage and learn from other industries to manufacture at scale 👍 Standardisation - across the board, from workflows to AI Thanks to the panellists for the dynamic discussion - Rebecca Street from RoslinCT, Katy Newton from Achilles Therapeutics plc, Antoine Espinet from MFX, Edwin Stone from Cellular Origins, Kwok Pang from adthera bio and facilitator Stephen Ward, Chief Technology Officer, Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult

A great opening to #AdvancedTherapiesIntegrates this morning with a welcome address from Matthew Durdy, Chief Executive Officer at Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult who gave a view of where the ATMP industry is today. "Cell and gene therapy can deliver the most amazing impacts to patients today. But how do we take the amazing potential of these therapies to make them universal, easy to use, and much, much cheaper?" Matthew described four conditions that need to happen here and that will be discussed today: - Flow of new technologies into the sector - Cost of goods to come down - Much greater uptake (due to acceptable costs and necessary production volumes) - An industry that can deliver the volumes required at a suitable price point Nicole Mather, Health Data, AI and Life Sciences Lead at IBM then joined him on stage for the first fireside chat to explore these issues further, especially the opportunites that AI and technology bring to the industry - from robotics and automation to predictive analytics and even digital twins. A fast-paced Q&A discussion followed with lots of questions from attendees on confidence, value and security. A brilliant start to what looks set to be an exciting day!
