Women in Health Data Network’s Post

Data for good: Are women underrepresented in clinical trials? Are there specific health conditions that affect women more ? Can data and AI  be leveraged to derive insights into understanding these health inequalities better? How does the NHS England address this in terms of obtaining high quality data to derive insights? These are some of the questions we will be addressing as part of a panel focused on women's health inequalities during the Women in Data® Flagship event on Mar 7th in London. The panel will feature Natalie Cramp Jennifer Visser-Rogers Mridula Sori Camellia Williamson, Harini Gopalakrishnan and Janet Broome. I am excited to be moderating this discussion with women from diverse perspectives who work with health data everyday. I am passionate about using data and technology to improve the health of humanity. I am passionate about creating a better world for our children and grandchildren. What else should we leave behind, if not a flower for someone else to enjoy when we are gone? Join me this week at the CMS Health Equity Conference to talk about using data and AI to improve health equity. While I am looking forward to presenting and facilitating conversation, I’m most excited about learning from other experts and colleagues on this topic. To me, improving health equity means increasing the opportunity for someone to attain their optimal health - regardless of things like race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography or language. Sometimes the best next step in creating the future you imagine is to take an objective look at where you are NOW (both as an organization and as an individual!) #HelloData Having a baseline is necessary to effectively measure change over time. How else will you know if you are actually moving in the right direction? How else will you have the confidence to change investments to better serve your mission? Data can help us celebrate the “wins” - reminding us where we started - highlighting how far we’ve come. Data can also help us to stay grounded in how far we still have to go, so we can continue making the business case to invest in a purposeful pursuit. #creatingabetterfuture #now #healthequity #purposedrivenwork

It’s also often connected to women’s living longer on average. But… We've found that majority of the gap appears during women's prime working years.👩💻 Over half the women in tech leave the industry by the midpoint of their careers** More than double the rate of men** Not addressing this could have huge economic implications. Because if women were healthier, they could be more productive.🤗 Female biology is different from male biology—beyond the reproductive system. Some diseases manifest differently in women than in men.
