🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮💡 This week, I had the privilege of attending Future of Utilities, my first industry event since joining Snowflake. It was an incredible opportunity to hear from industry leaders about the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. One theme resonated across all conversations: 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. It was fantastic to have our very own Ravi Bhatta MBA on stage, discussing the roadmap to digital transformation of the industry. Here are some key highlights: ⚡ 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Ofgem's mandate for data sharing is a step in the right direction, but legacy systems, siloed business units, and competing strategies often stand in the way. Solving these challenges requires breaking down silos and enabling real-time collaboration across the energy ecosystem. ✅ 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 When data is shared in real time, regional and dynamic pricing models become possible. These can incentivise energy-intensive industries to move closer to renewable sources, reduce grid strain, and offer consumers cheaper electricity during periods of surplus renewable energy. 🚨 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗧 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗧 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 Integrating Operational Technology systems with modern IT platforms creates opportunities for advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning. This kind of innovation can help optimise grid operations and improve energy efficiency. 💡 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 The industry is working to reduce the time it takes to share smart meter data to 30 minutes. While this is progress, it’s clear there’s room to improve further. Faster access to this data is crucial for energy trading, grid optimisation, and providing consumers with dynamic pricing options. As someone new to Snowflake, I’m excited to be part of an organisation that can play a pivotal role in this transformation. A great read in iTnews today highlighting how Seven West Media leveraged Databricks to forecast audience view patterns on both a seven-day and 28-day horizon. The company is now scaling its use of Databricks to support additional analytics use cases. Andrew Brain, Audience Intelligence and Growth Director, emphasized the significance of this advancement, stating, "We can now understand what our audience is going to be from a value perspective on volume and also what they’re going to be watching." 👣 Yep - more reflections from about 50 feet in the air. (Pun unintended yet now feeling clever!) 🗣️ Heard so much about #data challenges at the #GartnerDA conference in London this week. Much like the weather in front of me, businesses continue to be dealing with a data fog. ⁉️ What initiative do we start with? How is context and semantics important? Why do we still have silos? How can I bring all my data together for simple answers? Everyone is talking about Gen AI, how do we implement it effectively and safely? What do you guys do? Can I have some of those mints? Just a few of the questions from wonderful prospects stopping by our booth. I used a quote from Gartner analyst Svetlana Sicular in some of these conversations - "start cooking with simple recipes before attempting the gourmet meal". So applicable, as it continues to be very clear, supported both by the kinds of conversations our stellar team had as well as research - Get Your Data Right First! ☸️ Creating that connective tissue of shared, reusable, interconnected data is absolutely foundational in delivering success on any D&A initiative. Of course, we feel strongly that an ontology driven, semantic knowledge graph should be the core of these efforts - which has been proven in business large and small. Being able to manage diverse data sources, not mess with legacy systems and deliver that foundation needed for innovative data efforts - KGs are the way forward. Data accuracy, reliability and transparency was called out as the top challenge for #GenerativeAI implementation, yet I would say it's a consistent theme/need across any data program. 🌁 Don't be in a data fog - connect the dots of your data - uncover the relationships thru inferences and deliver the quality data needed for your business to thrive - Ontotext. And now to put my feet down - they've fallen asleep...
