Thought for the day - Data Strategy - Where does application integration fit in? Heading out to the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit next week, hoping to learn lots about the world of 'Data' but primarily with one question on my mind... Where does the more 'traditional' approach to integration using middleware fit into the ever growing and evolving world of 'data'? Does it even? That's 2 questions but you get the gist! The worlds of 'integration' and 'data' have similarities but ultimately trying to solve 2 different problems. Should these worlds be combined or will they always be separate and distinct disciplines? Is the answer somewhere in the middle? Always interested in your opinions network! Feel free to post your thoughts. We need to start recognising the importance of this role who have a complimentary but very different focus to CIOs. Promotion of CDAOs at board level is vital if we want to progress with the prevention agenda, population health management, tackling inequalities and evidence based decision making. I urge you to take the time to read this to understand why this role is so important in optimising intelligence and insights as these experts have a deep understanding of the complexities data and analytics needed to drive production of powerful intelligence and insights rather than report churn.

On Monday Microsoft announced some exciting new product news about Copilot, with more to come too! Copilot Wave 2 has built on lots of research and user feedback. I’m really looking forward to seeing these features soon! ▪️Copilot Pages is a new collaborative space for your AI generated content, shared in to a ‘canvas’ for you and colleagues to work on together. ▪️A new Narrative builder in PowerPoint, looks very good at quickly building slides with transitions, styling and content based on your needs and from your source documents - enhancing the already capable Copilot feature in PowerPoint. ▪️In Outlook you will be able to get Copilot to “prioritise my inbox” based on your preferences and priorities, to flag emails you need to address. Summarise and draft replies, including on the mobile app… You’ll be able to teach Copilot when you want to add specifics too… ▪️There’s some great tooling in Copilot for OneDrive- with files comparisons, improved search and find capability too - without having to open files… Read more here:

Influencing stakeholders is not the same as changing them. We need to know the difference. In data management, this is crucial. Here are the key points to consider: 1) Understand the difference between influencing and changing. • Influencing means guiding stakeholders to see the value in your data strategy. It’s about persuasion and presenting your analysis, facts, or data in a compelling way. • Changing stakeholders involves altering their roles, responsibilities, or perspectives. This can be more challenging and requires strategic planning. 2) Build strong relationships. • Trust is essential. Build it by demonstrating your expertise and reliability.   • Regularly communicate the benefits of your data management strategy. Keep stakeholders consistently informed and engaged and articulate what is in the store for them. 3) Use data to tell a story. • Present your approaches in a way that is easy to understand and relevant to stakeholders’ needs.   • Highlight how data management can solve specific problems they face in their business. 4) Show quick wins. • Implement proof of concepts (POC), demo a prototype, or deliver small projects that deliver immediate benefits (minimum viable products/ MVPs).   • Use these successes to build momentum and gain further support for larger data management initiatives. 5) Address concerns and resistance. • Listen to stakeholders’ concerns and address them directly.   • Be empathetic and show how your data strategy aligns with their goals. 6) Provide training and support. • Equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed.   • Offer continuous support to help them adapt to new data management practices. 7) Align data strategy with business objectives. • Ensure your data management goals are in line with the overall business strategy.   • Show how effective data management can drive business success. 8) Be patient and persistent. • Changing stakeholders’ perspectives or roles takes time.   • Stay committed and keep reinforcing the value of your data strategy. It was an inspiring day at the Digital Healthcare Council (DHC) workshop with Robert Ede, sharing insights with other innovators and thought leaders working to improve the NHS. A few key takeaways stood out: 1. The NHS will continue to challenge suppliers who can't adapt with sophisticated strategies. The easy wins are over - it's about building a strong case and delivering results. 2. Strong leadership is critical as clinical leadership remains critical to credibility within the NHS. 3. With no immediate funding on the horizon, providers will need to work creatively with existing systems and make a compelling case for their solutions. 4. Finally, success lies in gaining the trust and support of a wide range of stakeholders. It has been a valuable opportunity to work together and learn how we can collectively address these challenges to drive innovation and improve care.
