Axpo, a Swiss renewable energy producer, is set to build a new biomethane plant in southern Italy, marking its entry into the country's biomethane market. The plant, located in Grottole, will produce around 45 GWh of renewable energy each year by converting agricultural waste from nearby farms into carbon-neutral green gas. Once operational by the end of 2025, the plant will feed this green gas into Italy's national gas network, supporting the country's shift toward sustainable energy. This particular project adds to Axpo's portfolio of biogas plants in Switzerland, and Spain, and its recent expansion into Portugal, furthering its commitment to renewable energy solutions across Europe. News to share from France 🇫🇷 in the Renewable Natural Gas #RNGindustry. Veolia, Waga Energy, and #ENGIE have formed a powerful partnership to push the boundaries of sustainable energy production. Since May 1st, Waga Energy has been selling RNG produced at Veolia’s Val Pôle in Claye-Souilly to ENGIE under a #Biomethane Purchase Agreement (BPA), without government subsidies 👏🏼 This 13-year contract is the longest BPA ever signed in France, marking a significant milestone in the RNG market. Veolia supplies biogas from the Claye-Souilly landfill, one of France’s largest RNG production units with an annual capacity of 120 GWh, equivalent to the energy consumption of around 20,000 households. Waga Energy converts this biogas into high-value RNG using its cutting-edge technology. The RNG is marketed by ENGIE at a higher value than the subsidized price, highlighting the growing economic viability of renewable energy sources. This agreement also enabled Waga Energy to secure long-term financing from CIC and Arkéa Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels for the RNG production unit. Miya PAOLUCCI of ENGIE stated, “The signing of this new BPA contributes to ENGIE’s goal to supply 30 TWh of RNG per year to our customers by 2030.” This collaboration not only supports ENGIE’s ambitious goals but also accelerates the transition towards a sustainable energy future. FRV to invest some $5 billion in 2 GW of green hydrogen capacity in Brazil: FRV is one of a number of companies that has already signed contracts with the Ceará government for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives in the state. Its H2 Cumbuco project is set to expand to 2 GW of electrolyzer capacity in two phases. Renewable gas will power Ireland’s decarbonised future and biomethane will be injected directly into the existing network as it's the net-zero choice to fuel Ireland’s green energy demands, says Gas Networks Ireland chief executive Cathal Marley.
