I announced today that I am stepping down from Ørsted as Group EVP & CEO Americas effective Nov 30. In January, I will transition to GE Vernova as the Global Chief Commercial Officer, Wind.
What a ride it has been at Ørsted. For nearly 5 years I’ve had senior roles in the US offshore business and for more than 2 years I’ve led the full US business, including offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery storage and green fuels projects.
We’ve achieved so much! We completed America’s first commercial scale offshore wind farm, South Fork Wind, and began construction on two additional offshore projects, Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind. These 3 projects combine for ~1800MWs of new reliable domestic energy and will power more than 1 million homes and businesses when completed.
In our onshore business we’ve grown to become one of the sector’s leading investors with more than 6.5GWs of wind, solar and storage in operation or construction, and a huge pipeline of future development projects. This includes large, complex projects like our recently completed 468MW project in Texas, Mockingbird Solar, and our 300MW/1200MWh solar + storage project in Arizona, Eleven Mile. We also trailblazed an e-methanol project in the Gulf region that continues to progress.
We have done all this while prioritizing local communities. We’ve built supply chains from New York and New England to Texas and Louisiana, creating thousands of jobs. We’ve invested in infrastructure, including ports and vessels, and partnered with labor to build training programs and employ union workers.
And we’ve also built a strong culture and capable team internally at Ørsted Americas. I will miss all my colleagues but will especially miss my talented Americas team. You are truly a special team. I will always be cheering for your collective and individual successes. Thank you for great support and achievement. A special thank you to Mads Nipper, Rasmus Errboe and the Group Management Team, as well as my Americas Senior Leadership Team, who have all been a tremendous group of leaders and from whom I learned so much.
My next chapter is just as important. GE Vernova is an iconic US company and its Wind business is a global technology leader. Wind energy is an important part of the current and future energy system. After I left the Navy in 1998, I worked for GE for more than 10 years, and later I worked in the US and abroad for 2 other wind turbine OEMs for ~10 more years combined. I’m excited to put my past and recent experience to work to help Scott Strazik and Vic Abate continue to progress this important part of the GE Vernova portfolio. In my new role, I also very much look forward to building relationships with the many important global Wind customers and to helping them progress their projects and achieve their business goals. Last, I am super excited to meet all my new colleagues and to work together with them as we collectively lead the electrification and decarbonization of the world.
