🌱 Realizing the #LandRights of women is key to empowering them as the critical land stewards they are in driving action for our climate and biodiversity. 🌎 This is the point of departure for Frederike Klümper from our partner TMG Think Tank for Sustainability and our own expert Laura Rahmeier in their essay published in the new #HerLand publication on the occasion of UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) #COP16 in Riyadh. 💬 Their main call: We need to anchor women's land rights in the frameworks of all three 🇺🇳 UN Rio Conventions, following the example of the UNCCD. This will ensure that people's and especially women's rights are protected and that they have the best chance of advancing sustainable and equitable land management, as commitments on land multiply within the Conventions. Read their article ⤵️ 🔹 to understand why women's land rights and gender equality are central to sustainable land use and global climate and biodiversity goals. 🔹 to be inspired about strategic entry points and actionable pathways for implementing women's land rights at the UN level. 🔹 to learn about the commitment of the Women’s Land Rights Initiative (WLRI) to bridging global commitments with grassroots realities. ➡️ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/etj7NjmD #HerLand #UNCCD #GenderEquality #COP16Riyadh #OurLandOurFuture #WomensLandRights
Such an inspiring publication! It's important to bring visibility to and celebrate these projects so that we can continue to see progress in the land rights space 🍃 👏 ✨
We agree: Women's land rights are a key issue for gender equality. At Solidaridad, for example, we support women from the Brong Ahafo Women Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Central Union (BAWCOF) in Ghana to register as (co-)owners of their land.
