CARE International UK’s Post

“We have done all the negotiations. Now we need real actions to address the climate emergency." – Gbemisola Titilope Akosa   The latest text on the new climate finance goal is alarmingly insufficient. Proposed funding falls far short of climate needs. It leans on loans and private investments which have consistently failed to deliver to those most in need. It does not address human rights and gender equality.   Ultimately, it does not show care for the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations. We refuse to accept this.   As #COP29 comes to a close, we urgently call on the UK Government to show that they are serious about prioritising women and girls in the climate crisis. They must: 🔸 Prioritise a feminist response to the climate crisis 🔸 Push for a new global goal of at least $1 trillion in public climate finance 🔸 Ensure that any climate finance must be “new and additional”, not from existing aid budgets.
