We believe that when girls are empowered, they are inspired to break down deep-rooted stereotypes, become leaders, and to forge a more inclusive world for themselves. Our Your Time programme was designed to empower girls and young woman in exactly this way. The programme supports girls to become leaders in competitive sports in their schools. They choose the activities that inspire them, and how and when they want to take part. Taking ownership of their learning boosts confidence and teaches girls the leadership skills that are transferrable beyond education and into employment. Young girls look up to their peers and take inspiration from people like them. Through a mixture of peer-to-peer support, e-learning, and practical event delivery, girls can discover the barriers faced by their peers to taking part in sport, before creating their own event designed to tackle those issues and encourage participation. We want there to be thousands of Lionesses, Roses and young women making their mark in the sporting world up and down the country. Will you join us in this movement? 🌍 Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future 🌍 Reflecting on my time at the Model Youth United Nations event back in university, I’m reminded of the immense potential within young people to shape our world. Events like these showcase the power of youth voices, perspectives, and ideas to create real change—not just within our communities but globally. When young people are given a platform, the results are extraordinary. 🌟 They bring fresh ideas, bold solutions, and the drive to make a difference. Empowering youth isn’t just about personal growth; it’s about creating a ripple effect that benefits entire societies. If we can keep encouraging youth to dream bigger, speak louder, and engage deeply, our nations and our world will only continue to move forward. #YouthEmpowerment #Opportunity #ChangeMakers #GlobalFuture #Leadership

We commemorate #IYD annually to celebrate the tremendous work of the young people across the globe. We frequently hear this statement in these conversations: "Youths are the present and the future." It's a strong statement that encapsulates youth's vigour, promise, and potential. However, how frequently do our leaders actually consider its meaning? How often do they actually take action to turn it into a reality, beyond just talking the talk? I want to challenge everyone to examine this cliché critically, to reflect on the true meaning of the statement "youth are both our present and our future,". When leaders claim that the youth of today are the present, they have to acknowledge that we are active participants in today's world, not just leaders in waiting. Already, we are having an impact on the world stage, our workplace, and our communities. However, recognising this is insufficient. How do we make sure that the saying "Youths are the present and the future" isn't just something we in giving speeches and conferences? All young people must have access to high-quality education that will equip them for the realities of the modern world. Along with academic knowledge, this also entails critical thinking, practical skills, and the capacity to adjust to a world that is changing quickly. Youth have to be involved in the discussions and choices that have an impact on their life. This entails setting up pathways (quota systems) for youth to engage in leadership roles in the community, policymaking, and governance. Their opinions need to be given weight, and their voices need to be heard. It is time for young people to rise up to leadership positions in order to change the status quo because “no one, I mean no one” will change it for us. To sum up, the saying "Youths are the present and the future" ought to be more than just a motivational catchphrase. It ought to serve as a wake-up call, a reminder that every leader have an obligation to assist, encourage, and equip us the youth to face the problems of the present and the future. Let every youth leader change the lives of his/her fellow youths. Let's make a commitment to bringing these words to life and creating a society in which young people are acknowledged as change agents of the present as well as future leaders. #IYD2024

Figures from 2021 show that women only make up around 16.5% of engineers. We recognise the importance in changing perceptions, combatting stereotypes and, ultimately, encouraging women and girls to pursue STEM careers. As part of our commitment to this, we’ve developed initiatives to ensure the right support is available – including our Women in Leadership programme to empower women into leadership, and our Girls Believe Academy which is helping to inspire the next generation of female talent into the built environment industry. There is so much to be gained from having diversity in engineering and by embracing this, we can work to build a brighter future. 👩🔧 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gWVHKN4N #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay #INWED24 #WomenInSTEM

Empowering Girls in Waru: Global Girls Leadership Initiative – Session 2 Recap On Saturday, 21st September, we hosted the second session of our Global Girls Leadership Initiative in the Waru community. This session centered on the theme of community and its various structures, offering the girls a chance to reflect on the roles and dynamics within their local environment. The session was highly interactive, encouraging the girls to explore five key areas of their community: 1.Home – The girls shared insights into their families, discussing the roles and responsibilities within their households. They explored the similarities and differences between families in their community. 2.Religion – They identified the diverse religious practices in their community, gaining a better understanding of the beliefs that shape their environment. 3.Leadership – The girls learned about the various leadership roles within Waru, such as the king, youth leader, and women leader. They explored the responsibilities that come with each position, fostering a deeper appreciation for community governance. 4.Social – The girls examined how different members of their community, including men, women, and children, relax and spend their leisure time, highlighting gender and age-based differences. 5.Work – They also discussed the various occupations in Waru, such as farming and trading, understanding how these roles contribute to the community’s economy. Throughout the session, the girls actively engaged in discussions, gaining a deeper understanding of their community's structure. By the end of the day, they had developed a visual representation of their community's layers, illustrating key elements they appreciate as well as those they would like to see improved. This session was a significant milestone in our journey to empower girls in the Waru community. The girls not only learned about their community but also began to see their own roles and responsibilities in shaping it. We’re excited to build on this foundation in future sessions as we continue to foster leadership, critical thinking, and empowerment among these young women.Stay tuned for more updates as we progress in this transformative journey with the Global Girls Leadership Initiative! #GirlsEmpowerment #CommunityLeadership #SEGEI #GlobalGirlsLeadershipInitiative

Nurturing female talent is a strategic business imperative. Investing in women’s development helps build a more diverse and resilient organisation.
It’s not just about equality. Nurturing female talents is also a strategic imperative. The distinction between mentorship and sponsorship is crucial. Women now receive more mentorship than before, but crucially, much less sponsorship than their male counterparts. People of colour, less sponsorship still. Highly recommend reading this article to better understand the important distinction between #mentorship and #sponsorship #leadership #genderequity #equity #inclusiveculture
Don’t just mentor women, sponsor them. Mentorship is a hot topic these days, especially when it comes to women and people of color at work. And while it can be helpful, leaders must take it a step further, and sponsor us, too. Sponsorship is when leaders use their social capital to advance us. There are very tangible ways we can sponsor women and people of color, the ABCDs of sponsorship: Amplify Boost Connect Defend In this Harvard Business Review article, Rosalind Chow shares her brilliant four-step framework: https://lnkd.in/gHz8dnrd #leadership #womenleaders #peopleofcolor #mentorship #sponsorship #Uncompete
