Is the market for turn based games bigger than we realize, and could that be due to online discourse? Probably not. That said since there isn’t data to support or dispute this, I choose to believe that it is the case. I asked several people who I suspect have an online argument addiction and their favorite video games, by far, are turn-based games such as XCOM and the like. Turn-based games have maintained their popularity across different age groups across the decades. The recent success of Baldur’s Gate 3, a turn-based RPG, winning Game of the Year in 2023, demonstrates that there is still a significant audience for this genre. Other popular turn-based franchises like Pokémon, Civilization, and XCOM have also contributed to the ongoing appeal of turn-based gameplay. Who knows, perhaps soon we will see an explosion in demand for turn based games in the market once people realize that enemies stay defeated in games, when that isn’t always the case in online arguments, minus the block feature.

What do the most-played PC games of August 2024 have in common? 🤔 They're not from 2024. The newest entry is already 4 years old. 😲 According to the Newzoo report, the top 10 most-played PC games in August: 1. Roblox - Released in 2006 2. Minecraft - Released in 2009 3. Fortnite - Released in 2017 4. The Sims 4 - Released in 2014 5. CS2 GO - Released in 2012 (I know, CS2 is from 2023 but c'mon) 6. Call of Duty Warzone - Released in 2020 (Yes, MW3 is from 2023, I know) 7. League of Legends - Released in 2009 8. Valorant - Released in 2020 9. GTA V - Released in 2013 10. Rocket League - Released in 2015 I understand the appeal of those titles. Heck, I played most of those games myself (especially Warzone during lockdown! Still remember the heart pounding when it was just us vs. the other team. Absolute fire!🔥) But whenever I see lists like that, I wonder how the hell a game that comes out today can even compete with those well-established behemoths with millions of active users, dedicated communities, and a constant influx of content. There is still room for breakthrough hits (I'm looking at you, Wukong 🐒), but at the same time, it feels like many games will be doomed to live in the shadows of those giants. What do you think about it? ----------- Newzoo report: https://lnkd.in/d_jRwiEm

Co-op games have become a lot more popular recently. Chained together is another example of a relatively unknown game suddenly rocketing in popularity. You have to climb out of hell while chained to your friends. The appeal and comical value is obvious. Co-op games have been making a lot of waves recently as social gaming picks up. It seems to be less about the metaverse of playing with strangers and more about an opportunity to have a good time with friends. The caveat to this trend is that most of these games don't stick around for long. Players rotate through these co-op games looking for the next fun experience. It might be increasingly hard to sustain them live service games. But it's also a hard sell at 60 or 70 dollars. This is an opportunity for smaller teams making 20-40 dollar games. Arguably 5 dollars is way too low and a missed opportunity. #GameDev #IndieDev #PCGames

There are 22 PC games sold 2M+ copies this year, here is my 7 key take aways from the sub-genre breakdown. 🥇 To make a hit, Action games are your best bet. 🥈 You don’t have to make a multiplayer game. 🥉 Single player games need a strong narrative. 4️⃣ While RPGs made a lot of noise in the media, successful combo is an action-adventure. 5️⃣ Not many new players in PvP, because Well, they take forever to balance. 6️⃣ There are 10+ ''2024 release'' games, Shows market is open to new players. 7️⃣ UGC has almost no place on Steam Charts. What do you think? Let me know if you want to see similar breakdowns or charts! Cheers! PS: This list is based of Steam Charts so big UGC names like Fortnite and Roblox so they should be taken in to consideration separately PS: Palworld's clear dominance will shake the market a bit, along with Hell Diver 2's exceptional revenue.
