**Exploring the Future of Precision Medicine with Dr. Mark Kristiansen ** This is a secret I have kept for a while 👀👀👀 I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Mark Kristiansen, the Head of Genomics at the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children (ZCR), UCL half a year ago, during which we delved into the future of precision medicine, its challenges, and how we can address them. In our discussion, Dr. Kristiansen emphasized the importance of public engagement in personalized medicine - the need for transparency and openness in scientific work, which is embodied in the 'fish tank' design of the ZCR lab. He also touched on the challenges posed by the diverse nature of personalized medicine and the danger of false information, stressing the importance of truthful communication to maintain public trust and the need for a tailored education strategy in different contexts. Lastly, he underscored the role of healthcare providers in informing patients about novel therapies and the need for government involvement in integrating personalized medicine into traditional clinical trials and approval systems. Nevertheless, we both agreed that the future of personalised medicine is optimistic, but the road to a better future is always an uphill climb. I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Mark Kristiansen for his insightful thoughts and to the editor for making this article possible. A date for the diary! Can we design research so that it improves the world we live in? That is what translational research does. This session, co-designed by Taylor & Francis Group, brings together translational research experts from Science, Medicine, Social Science, Engineering to look at how research can be conducted in a way that supports positive, practical outcomes that solve challenges. #TranslationalResearch, #ResearchImpact, #ResearchPolicy
We are excited to bring together global leaders and experts from the research policy and research funding sectors for an online event on the topic of translational research. Co-organized with our partners EATRIS (the European infrastructure for translational medicine) and EASSH – European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities, this webinar happens Wednesday, June 5th at 8:30 am EST. Anton Ussi from EATRIS will moderate a conversation with Dr. Alicia Greated, Dr. Joni L Rutter, Dr. Nikos Kastrinos, and Anji Miller Ph.D CLP RTTP to discuss how research funders and others can support and promote cross-disciplinary research translation in a global context. Don’t miss this opportunity to find out best practices from existing funding schemes and initiatives, and also discover emerging opportunities and needs for translational research. We’re excited to be part of the Future Medicine Innovation Days in Berlin! This new science conference by Verlag Der Tagesspiegel brings together leaders in research and healthcare to explore innovative ideas that will shape tomorrow’s medicine. Our Scientific Director, Maike Sander, participated in a panel on “Innovation through Collaboration,” alongside Søren Salomo (TU Berlin) and Matthias Meergans (VFA), moderated by Stephan-Andreas Casdorff. Together, they discussed the essential connections between science and industry. Thanks all for the inspiring exchange! Maike Sander highlighted key areas to strengthen innovation and translation: ✅ Foster greater interaction between academia, biotech, and pharma. ✅ Create educational programs for MDs and PhDs to gain industry experience. ✅ Diversify PhD tracks to include paths for entrepreneurship and translation. ✅ Reform academic research assessments to recognize varied research contributions. Watch the replay if you missed the event: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBzBRvRf 👈 At the Max Delbrück Center, we’re committed to fostering collaboration and paving the way for discoveries that will define tomorrow’s medicine. #FutureMedicine #Innovation #LifeSciences #ResearchAndDevelopment #HealthcareInnovation #mdcBerlin

Achieving representative clinical trials in the U.S. requires coordinated and concerted action. ACRP recognizes the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard (MRCT Center), Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), Milken Institute, and The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for leading the development of a national action plan to inform and inspire system-level change in improving representation in clinical trials. Yes! Our LEO Foundation Center’s strategic review has been approved. Professor Martin Malmsten, Research Director and Principal Investigator of LEO Foundation Center for Cutaneous Drug Delivery (LFCCDD), says: “This favourable and constructive review reassures us that the center is doing well and has great potential for further development. As a leader, I am both pleased and very proud.” LFCCDD https://lnkd.in/ejJjTR6y at Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen was subject to a strategic review in November by an international panel of experts, resulting in a report that recently was discussed and now approved by the LEO Foundation // LEO Fondet. 👨🔬 👩🔬 The panel was: Chair Professor Calum Drummond AO from RMIT University, Professor Marjana Tomic-Canic, University of Miami, Professor Ryan Donnelly, Queen's University Belfast and Associate Professor Pankaj Karande from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They spent two days in Copenhagen where they met the center staff, Head of Department Jukka Rantanen and LEO Foundation // LEO Fondet representatives. Thank you all for two intensive days. So, what’s the short version of the panel’s report? Check it out: 1️⃣ 👉🏼 Key strengths of LFCCDD Overall, the panel is very happy with the development of the center and notes an excellent track record regarding publications and external funding. It also highlights the cohesive center construction, exemplary leadership, good mentoring, an enabling culture, and committed staff, and that individual projects share a common tread, enabling joint themes. 2️⃣ 👉🏼 LFCCDD opportunities Furthermore, the panel notes the proximity to the large-scale facilities MAX IV Laboratory and European Spallation Source ERIC as a competitive advantage for the center. Based on these considerations, the panel sees opportunities for the center to intensity its international ambitions regarding both funding and collaborations, as well as to further develop translational activities and the position of the center within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH at the University of Copenhagen. 3️⃣ 👉🏼 Recommendations for future development of LFCCDD In addition, the panel recommends some aspects to be considered in the continued development of the center, including the teaching load of center staff, laboratory space, and strategies for future funding of the center. #pharmacy #skindiseases #skinresearch #dkforsk #kbhuni
