🌟 Exciting New Publication! 🌟 Last week, we were happy to welcome Hannah Agten as joint-postdoctoral researcher between BIO INX and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven). This week, we are thrilled to announce her latest publication in collaboration with BIO INX, in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology! Hannah Agten is a woman on a mission for cartilage regeneration, and therefore we are happy that this publication entitled "In vitro and in vivo evaluation of periosteum-derived cells and iPSC-derived chondrocytes encapsulated in GelMA (GEL-MA INX 210) for osteochondral tissue engineering" showcases some promising results on cartilage regeneration! In this cutting-edge study, the researchers explore a novel tissue engineering approach for cartilage regeneration in rats using our innovative GelMA INX X210 bioink. The research delves into the regeneration of osteochondral defects, deep joint surface lesions affecting articular cartilage and subchondral bone. Key Highlights from the Publication: - Evaluation of cell-laden hydrogels containing human periosteum-derived progenitor cells (PDCs) or human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived chondrocytes encapsulated in GelMA for cartilage and bone regeneration. - Successful generation of hyaline cartilage-like tissue constructs and mineralized tissue/cortical bone using iPSC-derived chondrocytes and periosteum-derived cells, respectively. - Demonstration of superior performance of cell-laden GelMA constructs in both in vitro and in vivo studies, outperforming cell-only counterparts. THE STORY OF GLP-1 is the translation of the critically acclaimed story of the groundbreaking discovery of the hormone GLP-1 – told by the award-winning scientist himself, Professor Jens Juul Holst, and co-authors Professor Sten Madsbad, Professor Jens Meldgaard Bruun and CEO of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen. GLP-1 is the hormone in (amongst others) the weight loss drugs and diabetes medication Ozempic and Wegovy. The discovery of GLP-1 has markedly changed the treatment options for people with type 2 diabetes and obesity, with a treatment effect that includes both better regulation of blood glucose and significant weight loss, while reducing the risk of complications arising. Professor Jens Juul Holst, MD, DMSc, is one of the world’s most recognised researchers in diabetes. He pioneered the work that discovered the GLP-1 back in the 1980s and in this book, we trace the research-historical footsteps in the search for the hormone that today represents a paradigm shift in the treatment of diabetes and obesity. In business news, Oblique Therapeutics AB (publ.) announced that they have entered into a research collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly and Company to apply the AbiProt® technology to generate antibodies to a high-value target. This partnership aims to accelerate research and development into innovative treatments and, if successful, will generate milestones and royalties. Under this collaboration agreement, Oblique will partner with Lilly Catalyze360-ExploR&D, a pillar of external innovation at Lilly that brings enterprise learning, scientific know-how, and best-in-class research and development capabilities to accelerate partner science. In September 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Fast Track designation to Tulmimetostat for treating advanced, recurrent, or metastatic endometrial cancer with ARID1A mutations. Our CSO Vlad Seitan, PhD is in Sweden at the ISCT, International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy 2024 European Regional meeting in Gothenburg 4-6 September. Over the past decade, the successful application of genetic engineering tools augmenting cellular properties or correcting DNA mutations has paved the way to the development of groundbreaking ex vivo and in vivo cell and gene therapies.
