The Institute of Medicine has long recognized problems with health care quality in the United States, and for more than a decade has advocated using health information technology (IT), including electronic CDS, to improve quality. While the application of these technologies is compelling, a key challenge is to apply them to current initiatives associated with Meaningful Use, PCMH, accountable care models and other industry issues.
