This company below in this PR release, states that in their comprehensive Community Benefits Plan (CBP), they will invest 1% of their project investment towards labor, workforce development, and community-related "investments". This is GREAT news for thousands of California school children and their families! I remember attending a recent CA Senate Committee hearing on Universal Student Meals. One committee member was questioning why we were feeding “rich” kids. This is after the committee was told that over 40% of families in California do not qualify for Free or Reduced meals based on the National income eligibility guidelines for families. In other words, 40% of families living in CA live at or above the national “poverty” income levels, but below the cost of living income standards. No sir, those children are not rich. Consequently, thousands of those children have not participated in the school meal program in the past because their families cannot afford to pay for school meals. Additionally, universal school meals does not mean universal student participation. What is does is allow all children that want to participate in school meals to be treated with equal dignity and respect for wanting a school meal. We, at the National Farm to School Network , will continue to work tirelessly on ensuring Universal school meal legislation is enacted in every state and at the Federal level. We can’t do this work alone and will continue to work with our partners and members to make universal student meals a standard across the nation.

📢 Attention, Santa Rosa Business Community! 📢 The City of Santa Rosa has proposed two revenue measures to be considered at the next City Council meeting on July 23, 2024. Proposed Measures Include: 1. Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT): An increase of 2%, raising the TOT rate from 9% to 11%. 2. Business License Tax (BLT): Removal of the $3,000 maximum tax cap and updating the rate structure for businesses with gross receipts greater than $1 million. New Report: Systemic Barriers Holding Back California's Diverse-Owned Small Businesses A new report commissioned by the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, and California African American Chamber of Commerce reveals that despite making up nearly half of California’s 4.1 million businesses, Diverse-owned Small Businesses (DSBs) face major challenges like limited access to capital and high barriers to entry. These systemic issues have hindered the growth and contribution of DSBs to the state’s economy. The report was completed by Beacon Economics and funded by Southern California Gas Company, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Kaiser Permanente. Key Findings: - DSBs contributed $414 billion to California’s economy in 2020, supporting 3.6 million jobs annually. - California has fewer minority-owned small businesses relative to its population compared to Florida, New York, and Texas. - Targeted policies and better data collection could unlock the untapped potential of - DSBs and boost economic growth. The City of Sacramento Office of Innovation and Economic Development is now accepting grant applications to fund organizations that help start-up businesses and entrepreneurs in Sacramento. The "Innovation Incubator and Accelerator Grants" are aimed at supporting early-stage businesses located in the city, with a goal of fostering innovation and stimulating economic development. The program is designed to provide mentorship, education, and resources to startups, enabling them to grow and succeed. The grant funding comes from the Innovation Growth Fund in the General Fund, and programs must be completed within a 12-month contract period.
