I would like you to watch the video before you read my post. People who do not understand Hindi should read the subtitles on the video. Let me now explain why this bothers me. The young lad in the video criticises OOH advertising, labelling it data-deficient and expensive. He challenged the status quo in what seemed like a smart move, claiming that ₹3,000 could fetch a reach of 110,000–120,000 (insinuating that it is a smarter choice than opting for OOH since it delivers data). However, that’s where the data story ended. He swiftly transitioned from quantitative to speculative claims, citing anecdotal evidence—𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬. Ironically, the results he put up showed he had targeted everyone—M&F aged 18-65. Essentially, he did what OOH also does, and by that measure, OOH would have reached 10X as many. Advertisement = ❌ Public Relations (PR) = ✅ #D_Funda Here's an example (which IMHO) is an example of sheer brilliance that comes from the intersections of Diplomacy, PR and (video) Storytelling! It's brilliant because each data-point that Eric Garcetti (the US Ambassador to India) drops in the video, could've easily been a (boring!) press release or even worse a "Year In Review" 20-pager that wouldn't have gotten anyone to blink twice. Instead you get to watch an tastefully shot/edited video that adds colour, detail & numbers on how diplomacy between India & US has not only prospered but it uniquely outlines on what comes next for both nations. Having led PR for a couple of brands whilst partnering with leading PR agencies, I can say from experience that PR has a bad vibe not because of its complexity as a profession... It's actually because Boardrooms have seldom had foresight to view PR as anything other than a cost-function that gets you in the news (paper &/or TV). So if you're a CMO or have anything to do with PR in your org., you now have a PRime example to emulate.
