𝗜 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. I have become more observant post-retirement as my life is not packed with responsibilities and chaos. I worked to the day I retired, especially since my retirement coincided with the sale of the company.  There was no slow transition, no retirement parties celebrating my career—just boom, it is done! With more time to relax, I became more in touch with myself and the life around me. When I review my camera roll, I find more pictures of the sky with sunsets, sunrises, and the moon in its various phases than anything else. I used to look straight ahead, preoccupied with the constant stream of things to do. Now, I notice my surroundings.  I see the beauty of nature.  I immerse myself in artworks. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲.  I am finding myself after years of being a corporate persona who was mostly me but also shaped by the responsibilities of my job. I love the physical landscaping work I do for Ann’s business. It has helped me shed some badly needed pounds and create energy, regardless of my exhaustion at the end of the day. I take long vacations.  For decades, I never took more than ten days away from work. We look forward to six or more weeks on the road during the winter. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. I love telling stories, but finding willing listeners can be challenging. Now, I can write them and post them on social media. The beauty is that people can read them if they are interested without boring those who do not care.  The readers make the choice. There are many things I do not enjoy about being retired, but this is the biggest advantage.  Do you notice your surroundings?  If not, do not wait until retirement.

One of the best decisions I made was... to start exploring my purpose long before I retire. It is making the transition much smoother. Purpose isn’t just about staying busy. It’s about finding activities that give your life meaning and fulfillment. Without it, retirement could feel empty and directionless. Before retiring, I am asking myself what would bring me joy beyond my career. I have been exploring different passions—like becoming an entrepreneur. By testing these interests while I am still working, I begin to uncover what truly ignited my sense of purpose. As a result, when I transition out of my career, I will have clarity about how I want to spend my time. I feel energized and excited about the future, knowing I have meaningful pursuits lined up.
