"When you first embark on a project, you rarely know how it will change you" ... This is our latest published article outlining our work at ChainLink Disc Golf. Check it out below.
ChainLink Disc Golf, Toronto & Region Conservation Authority and Conservation Halton are excited to share this article entitled "Conservation by Design" in the most recent issue of PDGA's Disc Golfer Magazine, which was sent out to 95,000 homes. In this article, we explore how we use our unique approach to disc golf course design to support conservation mandates. By removing invasive species such as dog-strangling vine and buckthorn, working with Conservation Authority themed outreach and education programs such as Girls Can Too and launching the ChainLink Conservation Series PDGA-sanctioned tournament, we are building up local conservation areas as well as supporting their foundations. We look forward to doing more conservation projects. Come join us on May 11 at the Albion Hills Conservation Area for the formal launch of our two courses and to learn more about how conservation can tie everything together for the greater good. #conservation #discgolf #chainlinkdiscgolf #conservationseries #ccs #discgolfcoursedesign #getoutside #trca #conservationhalton Professional Disc Golf Association Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Conservation Halton Conservation Ontario

𝐎𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐄 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 | 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐆𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐘, 𝐆𝐀 Listed By: Todd L. Crosby The Oconee Hunt Club property offering is 3.5 miles southwest of Uvalda, GA, in Montgomery County. This property offers over 11,000 feet of river frontage along the famed Oconee River, with excellent fishing and boating opportunities. In addition to the river, there is a 20-acre lake known as “Lazy River Lake” within this property's boundary. This is a private lake that has no outside access from the river except during exceptionally high water periods. The lake is renowned for having some of the best fishing in the region. Other improvements include six well-established wildlife food plots strategically placed throughout the property and an excellent interior road system. Quality riverfront tracts like this one rarely are available, this is an excellent recreational opportunity for any outdoorsmen. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/ey37WypJ #landforsale #GAlandforsale #landbroker #landagents #conservation #landowners #landownership #realestateagent #recreationalland #timberland #investmentpropertiess #plantation #agriculture #land #wesellrealestate #LandRealEstate #landspecialist

Today I joined a couple of hundred other souls outside the Supreme Court as the judges begin their consideration of an appeal against a Court of Appeal judgement enshrining the right to wild camp on Dartmoor. As Caroline Lucas, who addressed the crowd, pointed out, the UK is one of the most nature depleted nations in the world with less than half of our biodiversity remaining. This is compared to a global average of 75%. It’s common knowledge that access to nature is a powerful weapon in tackling our national mental health crisis. It’s also common sense that those exposed to the enjoyment of nature are predisposed to conserve it. Given all this, it seems extraordinary that access to wild camping in the only place in England that allows it, should hinge on a legal definition of the word ‘recreation’. Since the 1985 act which brought in the rights in question, land users and landowners alike have accepted that responsible camping is included in that definition. That's four decades of common practice. However, the appellant (who had only owned land on Dartmoor for about a decade before bringing the case) has tried to suggest that wild camping is merely ‘sleeping’ and cannot therefore be considered recreation. I must declare an interest. As well as a general love of wild spaces, I have been walking and wild camping on Dartmoor for every one of those four decades. Just 2 months ago I took my partner and her 10-year daughter for their first wild camp. Their excitement and enjoyment at being ‘off the beaten track’, close to nature, and with the thrill of controlled risk, was lovely to see. The idea that this was merely ‘sleeping’ is ludicrous to anyone lucky enough to have experienced it. How can we expect future generations to love, respect and preserve our environment if they cannot access it? If you have taken the time to read this (thank you), and have access to the levers of influence in any organisations that will ultimately benefit from positive rights being maintained, I would ask that you use those levers to persuade those bodies to take a public and positive stance on this, and the more general subject of rights to roam. These rights have been slowly eroded ever since the 17th century acts of enclosure began, and this legal action threatens to place another locked gate between us and our landscapes. https://lnkd.in/eR44t4ir

A good example of how the US boating industry is finding itself lobbying against environmental policies, while it relies on, and actually exist for, enjoying that very same marine environment. Bans or drastic limitations are not needed if we would know where the marine mammals live. Coincidentally Water Revolution Foundation is currently promoting the North West Atlantic Important Marine Mammal Areas project in the yachting community for its support. It covers the US east coast, Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean to know exactly where the mammals live, feed and breed. It starts this May and is meant to enable politicians to make informed policies, but also operators, incl. boaters to adapt to these areas, e.g. by using the maps as layer on navigation charts. All to live in harmony, the best long term approach for the boating community and nature. The outcomes of this IMMA project would give the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and others the content to lobby in favor instead of against, and propose the right policies that everyone can accept. I invite especially the NW Atlantic yachting and boating community to learn more about this project and of course support it: https://lnkd.in/d2sV5PTT
It's time to make your voice heard with your congressional representatives! “The proposed NOAA Fisheries rule is based on incorrect assumptions and questionable data, and fails to distinguish between large, ocean-crossing vessels and small recreational boats, which could not be more different from each other. Most concerning, the proposed rule ignores the advanced marine technologies available now that can better protect the North Atlantic right whale and prevent vessel strikes." How Spearfishing Can Benefit Marine Conservation Spearfishing, when practiced responsibly and sustainably, can offer several benefits for marine conservation. Unlike commercial fishing methods, spearfishing is highly selective, minimizing bycatch and habitat damage. It also requires no bait or discarded gear, further reducing environmental impact. Spearfishing can even play a role in controlling invasive species and fostering conservation awareness. However, responsible spearfishing practices and adherence to local regulations are crucial for ensuring the sustainability of this activity. #diving #scuba #scubadiving #divtop #sea #underwater #spearfishing #fishing #ocean #watersports #freediving #oceanic #divingbuoy #divingfloat #divingsurfacemarkerbuoy #divingsausage #scubapro #oceanic #mares #snorkeling #divingsafety #divingEquipment #divingaccessory #divinglanyard #divingknife #divingmask #divingfin #divingwetsuit #divingglove #divinglight #freediving #divingsafetyproduct #DEMAshow #divingknife #divingfin #divingmask #watersports

A hundred-year plan for landscape scale forest restoration...
This 100-year, landscape-scale forest restoration strategy is the first of its kind in Ireland. It's a long road ahead but the hard work to implement the strategy is already underway. I'm proud to be part of this with my colleagues at NPWS.
