I wrote this dissertation in the summer of 2018, as part of my MSc in International Public Policy at UCL. I looked into AI regulation, and whether the Partnership on AI could provide an effective system for self-regulating AI development, ensuring that it happens safely and…

This thesis is an investigation into the origins, application and potential of the concept
known as Creating Shared Value (CSV), a theoretical framework introduced and developed by
Harvard professors Michael Porter and Mark Kramer in a 2011 Harvard Business Review article.

Furthermore, the paper contains an in-depth case study of the application of the CSV theoretical
framework, examining the components and success of Nespresso’s Ecolaboration program. Nevertheless, I also examine criticisms of the approach and it's particular associations with Nestlé.

In the paper, I argue that the concept of CSV is a useful combination of pre-existing ideas

method for private corporations to embrace a new, necessary, model of capitalism.
