We investigate and campaign against environmental crime and abuse
About us
Environmental Investigation Agency UK is a UK charity, number 1182208. We investigate and campaign against environmental crime and abuse. Our undercover investigations expose transnational wildlife crime, with a focus on elephants, pangolins and tigers, and forest crimes such as illegal logging and deforestation for cash crops like palm oil. We work to safeguard global marine ecosystems by addressing the threats posed by plastic pollution, bycatch and commercial exploitation of whales, dolphins and porpoises. Finally, we reduce the impact of climate change by campaigning to eliminate powerful refrigerant greenhouse gases, exposing related illicit trade and improving energy efficiency in the cooling sector.

We are delighted to see the spotlight on the wonderful Kumar Paudel and team from Greenhood Nepal in the final episode of Sir David Attenborough’s BBC’s Asia, following the illegal trade in pangolin scales. Greenhood Nepal is one of our partners in a new project to counter wildlife trafficking in the trans-Himalayan region, along with the Wildlife Protection Society of India. It’s great to see its work to support national law enforcement agencies being recognised. EIA’s work to expose and counter the illegal trade in precious teak from conflict-torn Myanmar has made headlines in recent weeks, with fines handed out to companies breaking sanctions to import Burmese teak and confirmation that the timber was used to build Amazon boss Jeff Bezos’ superyacht. Today, EIA Forests Campaigner Kate Klikis gives the latest updates on the issue and insights into timber trafficking in general as special guest in the latest episode of the KYC Decoded podcast by Moody’s, which provides data, intelligence and analytical tools to help business and financial leaders. You can listen to the episode ‘The deep, dark woods: Navigating the illegal timber trade’ now at https://loom.ly/5jUMtl0 #Myanmar #Burma #teak #timber #illegallogging #yachts #superyachts #Bezos

EIA congratulates the European Parliament for rejecting numerous destructive amendments from conservative group EPP to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which would have sabotaged it beyond recognition. However, we are disappointed that they have accepted a 12 month delay to its entry into force. This ground-breaking legislation will prohibit the trade in beef, leather, chocolate, soy, palm oil, and coffee linked to deforestation to and from the EU market. It is needed more than ever to prevent devastating biodiversity loss and climate change as well as the violation of human rights. Ancient forests are being destroyed at a terrifying rate – we need to act now, not wait another year. The UK has a big opportunity to solidify its role as a true champion for methane reduction! After giving evidence earlier this year to the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee, EIA Climate Campaigner Kim O'Dowd today welcomes the Committee's subsequent report. “The new Government is showing promising signs of leadership,” she said. “With a few decisive steps, it could solidify its role as a true champion for methane reduction.” Get the full story now at https://lnkd.in/exQwg84N #climate #climatechange #methane #UK

The Environmental Investigation Agency is looking for a Campaigner Fossil Fuels to join our Climate Campaign. Do you have the skills and dedication we're looking for? The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is a UK-based charity who investigates and campaigns against environmental crime and abuse. Our undercover investigations expose transnational wildlife and forest crimes. We work to safeguard global marine ecosystems by addressing the threats posed by plastic pollution, bycatch and commercial exploitation of whales, dolphins and porpoises. Finally, our climate campaign aims to keep global warming below 1.5°C and meet the climate challenge through rapid, sustained reductions of emissions of all the major greenhouse gases, including methane, nitrous oxide and refrigerant greenhouse gases. The Climate Campaigner will be an essential member of EIA’s Climate Campaign team, focusing primarily on advancing a managed, equitable phase-out of fossil fuels. This role centres on supporting the expansion of the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA), working to enhance its structure, broaden its membership, and identify effective pathways for developing a global governance framework on fossil fuels. The Climate Campaigner will oversee the daily operations of key aspects of the fossil fuel campaign, ensuring the campaign strategy is delivered effectively and within established timelines. The role involves close collaboration and coordination, both within EIA and with external partners in the EU and globally. • Islington, London (Hybrid) • Full time • Fixed Term Contract - 12 months https://loom.ly/Noxhgz4 #eia #climate #climatechange #climatebreakfown #fossilfuels #bigoil #ghg #job #vacancies #recruiting #ngo #protectnature #environment #environmentalcrime

Please help us protect tigers and other endangered wildlife. The Trans-Himalayan trafficking route: Tigers continue to be killed across their range due to high demand for tiger parts and products in China, Vietnam and other parts of South-East Asia. Organised criminal gangs take advantage of porous borders to smuggle tiger skins, bones, teeth and claws, as well as other endangered wildlife products, across the ancient trade routes from India and Nepal to Tibet and China. The worldwide population of tigers has declined by a massive 95% since the 1900s. Only around 5,574 tigers remain in the wild. We must protect tigers from this brutal trade. Please help us save endangered species! Any gift you can give today will help us to: Identify and dismantle the criminal networks who kill tigers and other endangered wildlife for profit. Campaign to protect tigers in their natural habitat, which in turn protects other species and ecosystems. Lobby governments for legislation that protects big cats and ends all trade in tiger products. If you can, please donate today to help protect tigers and other endangered wildlife. Your gift will make a valuable difference to our work.
