There can be no climate justice without social justice. At COP29, we're not asking for charity, we're demanding #justice. Polluters must be held accountable for the devastation caused by their profits - financing climate solutions is a matter of justice, not charity. It's time for the global North to take action: ➡️ Provide climate finance ➡️ Make polluters pay ➡️ Support communities fighting the climate crisis Their future depends on it. YES to climate financing that serves our goals. NO to derisory loans and carbon-offset scams. #COP29 #ClimateFinance #PayUp #Make #polluters #pay Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative Climate Action Network (CAN) Africa Africans Rising Dona Grace-Campbell 350.org Agape Earth Coalition International Student Environmental Coalition-Chad Loss and Damage News Tracker Wendpayangdé Dimitri TIENTEGA Dimitri Tah emmanuella coulibaly Alexis Kuisson Tchiei Yao Wilfried Kouamé Shamim Ahmed Mridha Abdoul Traore Karim Daniel Polak CliMateAlliance for Justice (CAJ) African Youth Initiative on Climate Change Zimbabwe (AYICCZim) Pan African Climate Justice Alliance PACJA Climate Justice Edmonton

COP29 has ended, but have we left nature behind? 🌍 While the “Finance COP” pledged $300B annually, the omission of nature-based solutions is a critical flaw. Nature can deliver 30% of needed emissions cuts & resilience—but funding is far below what's required by 2030. 📊 GRID-Arendal’s COP29 Nature Progress Survey revealed unanimous recognition of nature’s importance, but highlighted significant gaps in translating this understanding into action As we look towards COP30 in Brazil, we must elevate ecosystems in global finance. 🌱 🔗 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/d5hyX4T7 #COP29 #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateCrisis #SustainableFinance

Community organisations, SMEs and non-profits based in the #GlobalSouth have argued that the Science Based Targets initiative’s proposed expansion of #CarbonCredits use would unlock much-needed #ClimateFinance for frontline communities. In a statement released last week, 105 organisations working to mitigate #ClimateChange in vulnerable countries expressed their support for the SBTi’s Board of Trustees after it sparked heated debates by suggesting companies could offset more than 10% of their #Scope3 emissions through carbon credits. “We celebrate the #SBTi Board of Trustees’ evidence-based decision to recognise the important role that voluntary carbon markets play in driving global climate action,” they write. https://lnkd.in/eWYyBR3h #CarbonOffsetting #VCM #CarbonMarket #ChiefSustainabilityOfficer

Waste of money, Many NGOs are getting money on behalf of humanity and pretending to work for environmental issues. But reality you don't know, Doing intervention where there no need, just to fix some amount to satisfy donor, In my perspective climate change is not a big issue education is biggest issue in 2024, you need to invest in it. #sustainability #paradox #NGO

One of the big stories of #COP29 is climate finance. How can nations who have benefited from decades of carbon heavy industrial development support poorer counterparts, often the more vulnerable to the affects of climate change, to transition to net zero and protect biodiversity? In short, how do we level the playing field? In many ways these complex challenges play out throughout the sustainability landscape. Many climate-related initiatives lack the resources to afford costly legal assistance, being led by local communities, not-for-profits or charities. One Million Hours intends support them by raising intellectual capital. Pro bono legal services and skilled volunteering plays a critical role in helping to secure climate justice and accelerating the transition to net zero and a sustainable future. 📣 ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ve just learned that some of the #LossAndDamage negotiators from the #GlobalSouth who worked tirelessly 💪 to ensure the #LossAndDamage Fund came to fruition at #COP27 and #COP28 🙌 do not have funding to be at the upcoming intercessional climate negotiations under the UNFCCC UN, taking place from 3 to 13 June in Bonn, Germany. 👐 In order to take the outcome of #COP28 forward in a way that meets the needs on the ground we must ensure that negotiators from the Global South are at the table and equipped with the tools to advocate for those on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis. 👊 With just six weeks to go we have reinvigorated our fundraising campaign to raise the funds needed to enable at least two of the negotiators lacking funding to get to Bonn for the next round of global negotiators on #LossAndDamage. Please share to help us amplify. 🤗 https://lnkd.in/es4gkDMS For more on some of the challenges faced by negotiators from developing countries read a blog by Erin Roberts below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/ez5XuxVY Thank you in advance for supporting the true heroes on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis. 🙏

US non-profit Ceres, Inc. has released new guidance to help companies draft credible climate transition plans, which it says is aligned with the UK’s Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) framework. The sustainability advocacy organisation focuses on six action ‘action areas’: setting goals and science-based targets, decarbonising the business, ensuring a just transition, advocating for public policy, supporting integration and accountability, and tracking and reporting progress. It also offers 45 case studies analysing the #ClimateTransitionPlans of large companies, and identifies best practices from several of them, including Ball Corporation and Mars. https://lnkd.in/eVrmDVty #TransitionPlanning #TPTFramework #CSRD #ChiefSustainabilityOfficer

As we prepare to send out our weekly newsletter to US Climate Action Network members, I want to share reflections in this space on a couple of key issues we've been following. COP29 Update: The latest draft text on climate finance is a major disappointment, lacking the specific funding targets developing nations desperately need. But we're not giving up! We're joining international colleagues to push for a just transition, robust adaptation funding, and real solutions for loss and damage. We're also advocating for public finance over private to ensure national ownership. The fight continues! #COP29 #ClimateFinance Deep gratitude to many who have been working tirelessly in Baku, including our International Committee Co-Chairs (Carrie Clayton, Russell Armstrong, Kelly Stone, Rachel Cleetus, and Sriram Madhusoodanan) and board members (Colette Pichon Battle, Alden Meyer, and Brandon Wu). Meanwhile, in the US, the House passed HR 9495, a concerning bill that could strip nonprofits of tax-exempt status if deemed "terrorism-supporting." This could be weaponized to suppress environmental activism and dissent, which impacts many of our members. We're monitoring this closely. #HR9495 #Nonprofit #ClimateAction

At COP29, the focus on operationalising the Loss and Damage Fund marks a pivotal step in supporting climate-vulnerable nations. Dr Raksha Pandya-Wood and Dr Azliyana Azhari from the School of Arts and Social Sciences highlight the importance of Indigenous knowledge, such as that of Malaysia’s Orang Asli, (usually refers to the Indigenous Peoples of Peninsular Malaysia) and Orang Asal (a term typically used to refer to the Indigenous Peoples of Sarawak and Sabah) to build resilient, community-led solutions. This approach not only empowers those most affected but also aligns sustainable practices with local wisdom. 🌱 Click to read more. #MonashMalaysia #COP29 #IndigenousKnowledge #Sustainability
