13/11 FROM ONE DAY TO DAY ONE Congratulations to Swiggy for finally getting listed. 🎉 Food Marketplace and Quick Commerce are growing industries. Can't wait to behold the magic that will disrupt the market. In the past, I wasn't a big fan of Food Delivery startups as Cos like DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc. weren't looking sustainable seeing their growth. Well, this is the reason why we shouldn't assume Indian market based on foreign markets. Some Cos might fail there but work here. :) But the magic which has happened in India with Zomato is just unbelievable. They have gone from loss making co to a profitable one. And let me tell you that if you think the "platform fee" is making them profitable then its not. It contributes only 7-10% to the revenue. 🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. There are 247 startups in the YC S24 batch. You’re probably not going to meet them all. So how can you find the best ones? I look at every single startup, meet around 10-20% of them, and invest in perhaps one. Here’s how I do it… YC produces a wonderful tool: the YC Startup Directory. It contains details on every single YC company, from Airbnb to the latest batch. Here’s how I use it to find great new startups: 1. Choose the current batch (S24 is the current one) 2. Sort by “Launch Date” instead of “Default.” Then, I can see each new startup as its product launches.  3. Look at each page, see what looks interesting. What’s novel? What’s new? 4. Contact the founders. Their LinkedIn is on the right hand side of the page. 5. Set up meetings. The directory page is a great way to prep for these meetings. It’s almost like a mini-deal memo. Investors love to complain about YC. “Wahhh, the valuations are too high, I want my mommy!” Boo hoo. They sorted through thousands of companies and picked the best ones. Then they funded them and gave them the best coaching on the planet. The deal is friggin’ gift wrapped for you. And you want that at a $8M post? What do you think of YC? There is 𝗢𝗡𝗘 very good use case for hiring an 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 for verifications. And that’s when you have leads coming in whose probability of conversion is SO high that introducing any amount of friction in the income verification step is like conducting marketing malpractice. Go ahead and pay the $60+ per verification for those borrowers. But for any leads that are less than a layup (you’re not sure about the probability of conversion) ping Truv instead. You’ll pay less than 70% of the instant database fee per transaction, get the same data with the same certifications, and introduce only a small amount of friction into your marketing funnel. Truv sits in the “core” part of the income verification waterfall for most of our customers, with the instant databases used for extremely high intent leads.
