Last night was The Earthshot Prize awarding ceremony. Even though I couldn’t attend in person, hearing Adi Reza 🍄’s stories from Earthshot week and watching the awarding ceremony online made me feel the incredible energy from every finalist. Seeing so many innovators united in the mission of sustainability was both inspiring and a powerful reminder of why we embarked on this journey. 😊 Out of an incredible 5,342 global nominations, MYCL | Mycotech Lab reached the top 15, a milestone we are deeply honored and grateful for. Since I first learned about the concept of sustainability, it has been my guiding principle: whatever I do must have a positive impact. And after becoming a mother, I'm constantly thinking about the world we’re shaping for the next generation. Recently, I heard a heartbreaking story from a friend who works near the plantations and areas where agricultural waste is burned. It’s hard to imagine, but children live and play in these areas, breathing in the harmful smoke that pollutes the air. The choices we make today directly impact the air my daughter and those children breathe tomorrow. That’s why at MYCL | Mycotech Lab, we're working hard to find solutions that not only support our family values but also create a better future for all—one where no child has to suffer from the consequences of agri-waste burning. This is only the beginning, and our impact can reach far beyond borders. 🌍 URGENCY + OPTIMISM = ACTION We’re thrilled to share that MYCL | Mycotech Lab, one of our talented alumni from The Bridge Fashion Innovator (TBFI) program, is a finalist for the 2024 The Earthshot Prize! Their innovative use of palm oil waste to create a low-carbon, sustainable leather alternative has earned them this well-deserved recognition. We also proudly nominated Wynist Inc. , Nextevo™, Xinterra, and HeiQ AeoniQ™ for this year’s awards. Although they didn’t make it to the finalist stage, we commend their dedication to sustainable innovation. 🍄 From crop waste to fashion: MYCL | Mycotech Lab buys leftover palm fibre and shells from farmers and combines it with fungi. The result? A sustainable leather alternative that can be used in shoes, clothes, bags, and more. With this, MYCL tackles two major problems: crop-waste burning and harmful leather production. 🌟 Based in #Indonesia, they have ambitions to bring their mycelium technology to Japan and Singapore, and then more widely across Asia and Europe. MYCL — also part of the Amplifier Programme by Temasek Trust ecosystem entities Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP) and Philanthropy Asia Alliance — is creating local jobs for farmers and artisans and scaling rapidly through partnerships with major fashion designers. On 6 Nov 2024, The Earthshot Prize (TEP) awards ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, will announce five winning solutions. 🌏 Temasek Trust is a Global Alliance Founding Partner of TEP.
