Her session, 'Innovation Places: Shaping the Future of Innovation in Australia,' spotlighted the transformative power of innovation hubs like Lot Fourteen. Diane shared how Lot Fourteen has evolved into a world-class district driving innovation, enterprise, and global collaboration. With 160 businesses onsite, a $756M investment, and nearly 95% occupancy, the district is a testament to the power of strategic partnerships with institutions like the University of Adelaide, the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre, and the Australian Space Agency. Kicking off the Future of South Australian Government Summit this morning was Dr Eva B., Chief Information Officer at the South Australian Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF). Dr. Balan-Vnuk outlined South Australia’s remarkable progress under its Digital Government Strategy (2020-2025). She highlighted achievements such as hosting 16 executive briefings to strengthen collaboration between government and suppliers and the rollout of the M65 operating model, now supporting over 110,000 users. With the adoption of Okta as the state’s new identity management solution, outdated systems are being phased out. Looking ahead to 2025, priorities include a new cybersecurity framework, whole-of-government initiatives, and the modernisation of digital identity and essential public services. On the forefront of innovation, Dr. Balan-Vnuk introduced the M65 CoPilot Pilot, an internal Gen AI model aimed at responsibly leveraging AI’s transformative potential. She announced that the government will work with stakeholders across industry and the community to develop a statewide strategy for AI in 2025, underscoring the importance of industry collaboration to address AI’s broader implications. Her vision? To eliminate inefficiencies, not workers, as the state continues to optimise government operations. Yesterday’s final session at the Future of Federal Government Summit was a deep dive into “Exploring Data Innovation: The Federal Journey with AI & Data Analytics,” where an exceptional lineup of panellists shared their perspectives on how AI and data are transforming government operations. Our panellists, including Marek Rucinski from Australian Taxation Office, Kayelle Drinkwater from Department of Social Services (DSS), Leigh Berrell, from National Archives of Australia, and Elizabeth Moore from Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), each brought unique insights to the table: 💠 ATO has been integrating machine learning into its operations for years, enhancing client experience, fraud detection, and operational efficiency. Marek emphasised that a key takeaway for successful AI implementation is ensuring data readiness. 💠 ABC highlighted the vital role of trust in public media. Elizabeth shared that, while AI is valuable behind the scenes to support efficiencies, news content must remain curated by journalists to maintain editorial integrity and ensure public trust. 💠 The National Archives is approaching AI with cautious optimism. Leigh noted the challenges in digitising records at scale and emphasised the need for careful review of classified information before digitisation. The Archives’ work in this area reflects the importance of data standards and human oversight in safeguarding sensitive data. 💠 Social Services aims to leverage data insights to deliver more impactful and responsive services. Kayelle discussed how understanding data can lead to tailored support, helping the government better serve citizens in need.
