In July of 2024, Totemic installed an Eco250 Food Waste Dehydrator at Growing Places—funded by a grant from ReFED. We would like to congratulate them on their program to upcycle food scraps while implementing their important community programs for equitable access to healthy food and environmental sustainability in North Central MA! Food scraps are treated in the dehydrator for a ~16 hour cycle, reducing food waste by approximately 85% and generating two beneficially reusable products—clear, sanitized water and dehydrate which can both be recycled for watering plants, soil amendment, or chicken feed. If running every weekday, 32 tons of annual organic waste will be beneficially reused instead of entombed in a landfill. Money well invested by ReFED to cut food loss and waste in support of national and international goals! #ReFED #FoodDehydrator #Sustainability #WasteManagement #SustainableInvestment #Community

Last week was #FoodWasteActionWeek, so what did we learn? An eye-opener was that households could save up to £1,000 by simply buying only what they need, such as loose fruit or veg, to avoid wasting unused items. #ChooseWhatYoullUse But WRAP also shared research that shows how food waste recycling services can actually drive down the amount of food waste being created in the first place.🥑 How does this happen? 🤷♂️ Well, as people see food waste accumulating in their homes, they start to think more carefully about how they could better put that food to use, or how they could serve or prepare a more appropriate amount. 📉 In addition: ♻ Food waste recycling stimulates other positive recycling behaviours. ⬆ ♻ More frequent food waste collections (weekly) increase participation ⬆ ♻ Less frequent residual waste collections (fortnightly) in turn boost food waste recycling ⬆ The next two years are going to be a crucial and telling time for food waste collections around the UK. Why? 📆 The remaining ~50% of authorities in England without separate food waste collections will need to implement them by 31 March 2026. 📆 Businesses have an even shorter timescale, with separate food waste collections due by 6 April 2024 (Wales) and 31 March 2025 (England). 🕑 The clock is ticking for food waste action. What are you doing to prepare? #GreenPower #foodwaste #sustainability #anaerobicdigestion #climateaction #netzero

🚨 Attention Hospitality Businesses! 🚨 New food waste legislation is on the way as part of the Simpler Recycling Scheme! 🍽️♻️ Starting soon, hospitality businesses across the country will be required to arrange separate collection services for food waste. This initiative aims to streamline food waste recycling, making it more eco-friendly through anaerobic digestion, which turns food waste into valuable resources like biogas and organic fertilisers. If your business produces food waste and has 10 or more full-time employees, the deadline to comply is March 31, 2025. Smaller businesses will have until March 31, 2027 to prepare. Don’t wait! Ensure your business is ready to comply with these changes and make a positive environmental impact. 🌍🍃 Got questions? Learn about Food Circularity at ClimateCon! Fort Collins. This panel, including Compost Queen PBC and Vindeket Foods, will dive into the full spectrum of food circularity, focusing on prevention, diversion, composting, and the development of end-market products like compost. Experts from across the food system will discuss strategies to prevent food waste at the source, innovative methods for diverting surplus food, and how composting can transform organic waste into valuable resources. The session will also highlight how end-market products such as compost support soil health and sustainable agriculture, illustrating the economic and environmental benefits of closing the loop on food waste. Dear Colleagues, Reduce food waste to help protect the environment The theme for South Africa’s National Environment Month of June is ‘Think, Eat, Save and reduce your food print’, promoting an understanding of the impact food waste has on the environment. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization says that every year 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted. Communities are encouraged to ‘Think’ before discarding food off as waste. The second pillar, ‘Eat’ encourages consuming food in such a way that the environmental impact is reduced. If food is wasted, all the resources invested in its production are also wasted and as such, the final pillar encourages communities to make wise decisions about discarding food and ‘Save’ as far as possible. EnviroServ has vast experience in managing food waste across many industries, from manufacturing to retail. We are challenged to find ways to make waste management a positive contributor to the bottom line rather than simply a cost burden. Waste reduction, reuse, and recycling will reduce your carbon footprint, and conserve energy which in turn will reduce costs. Warm regards,

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 Food waste is one of the most pressing global issues, with significant environmental, economic, and social implications. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that about one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted annually, amounting to roughly 1.3 billion tons. This waste occurs across the entire food supply chain—from production and processing to retail and consumption. The environmental impact of food waste is enormous, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water waste. In response to these challenges, the food waste management market has grown rapidly, driven by increasing awareness of the need for sustainable practices and the implementation of more stringent regulations. This article explores the key aspects of the food waste management market, including current trends, innovations, major players, challenges, and future prospects. Where is Your Food Waste Going? Food waste - it is unavoidable, but is it unredeemable? Waste occurs at every point in the food cycle with household waste matching the entire food distribution and processing system’s waste. The question for today is: where does that food waste go? There are means of disposal being employed that stress our environmental resources: · landfills · garburator (water-based disposal) · composting without methane recapture. There are also positive efforts being made which redirect food sustainably including: · selling food near its expiry date at reduced rates · donating near expiry dated food · composting with methane recapture · collection for processing into biofuel (Davidson Environmental’s specialty) The difference is in the decision making, partnership building and intentionality. The challenge today: How will you help make the shift towards sustainable diversion of surplus food? https://lnkd.in/gK7hUyBU https://lnkd.in/gK7hUyBU #environment #reducecarbon #wastemanagement #savetheenvironment #landfill #greenhousegas #Biogas #WasteManagement #WasteAwareness #Environmental #environmentalsustainability #reducewaste #foodwastefriday #urbansustainability #sustainabilitygoals
