Where is Your Food Waste Going? Food waste - it is unavoidable, but is it unredeemable? Waste occurs at every point in the food cycle with household waste matching the entire food distribution and processing system’s waste. The question for today is: where does that food waste go? There are means of disposal being employed that stress our environmental resources: · landfills · garburator (water-based disposal) · composting without methane recapture. There are also positive efforts being made which redirect food sustainably including: · selling food near its expiry date at reduced rates · donating near expiry dated food · composting with methane recapture · collection for processing into biofuel (Davidson Environmental’s specialty) The difference is in the decision making, partnership building and intentionality. The challenge today: How will you help make the shift towards sustainable diversion of surplus food? https://lnkd.in/gK7hUyBU https://lnkd.in/gK7hUyBU #environment #reducecarbon #wastemanagement #savetheenvironment #landfill #greenhousegas #Biogas #WasteManagement #WasteAwareness #Environmental #environmentalsustainability #reducewaste #foodwastefriday #urbansustainability #sustainabilitygoals

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 Food waste is one of the most pressing global issues, with significant environmental, economic, and social implications. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that about one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted annually, amounting to roughly 1.3 billion tons. This waste occurs across the entire food supply chain—from production and processing to retail and consumption. The environmental impact of food waste is enormous, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water waste. In response to these challenges, the food waste management market has grown rapidly, driven by increasing awareness of the need for sustainable practices and the implementation of more stringent regulations. This article explores the key aspects of the food waste management market, including current trends, innovations, major players, challenges, and future prospects. Join us in celebrating Food Waste Day and let's all do our part to reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices! At ZeroCarbon, we believe that food waste should never be waste, and we work hard to ensure that it is recovered and repurposed in a sustainable and efficient manner. In Egypt, where waste is not typically sorted at the source, ZeroCarbon is leading the way in waste management and recovery. Our facilities are equipped to sort Municipal Solid Waste and convert it into valuable products such as compost, biofertilizer, and alternative fuels. This not only reduces waste but also helps to create a circular economy where resources are used and reused in a sustainable way. Is your organisation future-proofing its Food Waste obligations? 🥬🍕 By March 2025, all organisations that produce food waste — whether food manufacturers, corporates, cafés, hospitals, care homes, schools, fast food outlets, hotels, or simply any business that has a staff canteen — will need to separate it from general streams. Instead, it will need to be sent for recycling ♻️ by composting or anaerobic digestion. More and more stakeholders and shareholders particularly in large corporates are looking at how the owners and company management are going to be working toward and achieving carbon reduction targets in their businesses. Food waste composting at source is a fantastic way to fulfil the food waste management loop whilst helping the planet for future generations ♻️🌍🌱 On-site composting gives organisations the opportunity to generate Carbon Credits which can be used to Offset Carbon emissions. Did you know that a site producing 200kg of food waste per day can generate a 35 Tonne of Atmospheric C02 Carbon Offset... 🌳🌳🌳 DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS EQUIVALENT TO PLANTING AROUND 250 TREES PER YEAR 🌳🌳🌳 #facilitiesmanagement #carbonreduction #foodwastemanagement #carbonoffset #foodwaste #facilitiesmanager #composting #zerowaste

Compostable materials to drive food waste recycling and enhance soil fertility 9.5 million tonnes of food waste are generated by the UK every year. This waste is primarily sent to landfill, where it decomposes and accounts for 8% of all UK greenhouse gas emissions, and 31% of methane emissions. There is a huge opportunity to prevent these emissions by composting food waste and turning it back to soil – replenishing our agricultural land. For effective household food waste collection, the use of compostable liners in food waste caddies has been shown to significantly increase household participation. Other packaging that is contaminated with food waste, and hard to recycle by mechanical recycling, should also be compostable and collected with food waste, for example, coffee pods, fruit labels and teabags. Be the Next Savior One! #Compostable #food_waste #landfill #greenhouse_gas #methane #packaging #recycle

Organic waste—food, paper, yard waste, and other discarded plant and animal matter—makes up around three-quarters of humanity's municipal waste. And if not managed properly, it will create excess climate-warming CO2 and methane. In the U.S., the methane from food waste alone does as much to warm the climate as 15 coal-fired power plants! Libby McDonald, Associate Director for Practice at MIT D-Lab and a specialist in waste management, contributes our newest Explainer on organic waste and climate change. Learn about the numerous effective ways to minimize this waste or turn it into fuel, compost and other useful products—and how, from South Korea to India to Chile, policymakers have succeeded in slashing the climate impact of organic waste, by focusing on ease of use for the households and businesses who must be relied on to properly dispose of it. https://lnkd.in/esZ4HqNt #waste #wastemanagement #wastedisposal #organicwaste #methane #methaneemissions #greenhousegases #climatechange

My Question To You Guys 👉🏽 Why Didn't Anaerobic Decomposition Happen Here? Drop Your Answer In Comments👇🏽 . 50% of the trash we throw out is just food waste🍌 . 🗑️The food waste we throw everyday, usually ends up in a LANDFILL 🗑️In the landfill, when organic waste like food is mixed with other types of waste like plastics and metals, it releases METHANE 🗑️Which is one of the main causes of GLOBAL WARMING 🗑️If wrapped in a plastic bag and thrown in the street, this trash can also be FATALLY ingested by animals . SO WHAT TO DO WITH FOOD WASTE?👇 . 🥝Most fruit/veggie peels & stems can be fed to COWS 🥝They can be donated to nearby GAUSHALAS 🥝They can also be used to make BIOENZYME (Check my highlight 'Bioenzyme' to know more) 🥝Or they can be COMPOSTED (Check my highlight 'Compost' to know more) 🥝They can also be directly BURIED into the ground for decomposition 🥝Got more ideas? Drop em in the COMMENTS & I'll add good ones to the caption . #ZeroWasteKitchen #WasteFreeLiving #EcoFriendlyEating #SustainableFood #FoodWasteReduction #ConsciousConsumption #SustainableLivingTips #ReduceFoodWaste #GreenEating #EcoFriendlyKitchen . It's that time of year again! Nope, not Christmas yet—it's the European Week of Waste Reduction! 🗑️🚫 Kicking off on November 16th, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) promotes awareness of sustainable resource and waste management. We wholeheartedly support and share their mission: REDUCE consumption, REUSE materials, and RECYCLE waste. 👏 This year’s focus is on Food Waste. Did you know that EU countries produce over 59.2 million tonnes of food waste annually—about 132 kg per person? The economic impact of food waste in Europe alone is estimated at 132 billion euros. Furthermore, food waste contributes to greenhouse gas emissions linked to cropland, freshwater usage, and fertilizers used in food production. Let's make sustainable choices together as we only have one Earth—it all starts with our daily decisions. Check out the EWWR website for valuable resources. #Kuusakoski #KuusakoskiRecycling #EWWR #FoodWaste #CircularEconomy
