Research suggests that when we take a few moments to focus on the good things in our lives, it can increase our happiness and wellbeing. We discuss gratitude and feeling grateful with primary school pupils in Step 2 of the Hummingbird Project. Below, a pupil at St Gabriel's CE Primary School in Rochdale shares their thoughts. What are you most thankful for? Let us know in the comments. 🙂 #learningwaystofeelhappier #HummingbirdProject #positivepsychology #positiveeducation #childrensmentalhealth

I dare say, it's in gatherings like these that critical objectivity and subjectivity are explored. With Nachelle Crowther (FRSA) in the St Neots Initiative #CitizensGathering, the energy was just right to tackle #Education head-on, and that's exactly what we did. Building on the vibrant discussion from our first phase a month ago, this session was all about diving deep into problem and solution analyses from #Citizens' perspective. There is a lot to hear, follow the SNI Newsletter for the full scoop. 'Remember that one trauma your great-grandparents had, which then influenced your grandparents, and in their quest to shield your parents from it, they may have gone a tad overboard or missed another mark? And then your parents, thinking this was the norm, raised you as they saw fit. Oh, Wait, can't remember? When you reflect and share your challenges, most parents will recognize their part in it.' Transgenerational trauma—ever wonder how it shapes children's education and development? How about an audit of educational progression by generation? (Alex Hughes and Debbie Phillips mentioned this making me think of the linearity and complexity of education life and how they fit into the context of today's generation) #Education #MentalHealth #FamilyDynamics #CommunityEngagement #StNeotsInitiative

How has your school experience made a difference in your life? For our #SchoolSuccess Drive with Cornerstone Advocacy Services Christian, our Recruiter, shares how his education pushed him to achieve his goals. "My education has been pivotal in shaping who I am today. It provided structure, helped me establish a daily routine, and laid down important foundations. Transitioning from high school to college was a reality check that required effort, time, and encouragement to push towards achieving great things. Balancing academics, social life, and personal time was a significant life lesson that molded me into the person I am now. These experiences have been invaluable in my growth." Education is a powerful tool that shapes our future. It equips us with knowledge and skills, instills values, builds character, and opens doors to opportunities. That's why providing essential school supplies is crucial. As families and children start a new from experiencing violence, accessing essential resources can be challenging due to financial constraints. Providing school supplies gives them a positive start on their path to recovery. Why make Camp Cherith a priority this summer? A parent was asked why they send their child to camp each summer and if they were going to be returning this year? Her response was; "Camp is not an option - it's a priority. There is nothing throughout the year that can offer to our boys what camp does. I have noticed year after year, it is here that they gain more confidence, get to try things they otherwise couldn't, and are meeting great friends. Even more importantly it has been most significant for their spiritual growth." At Cherith, it is our hope that every child gets a chance to have a Christian camping experience each summer and we want to do whatever possible to make that a reality in 2024. Sure, some will still say: "camp is just a week away from home or a nice break from the kids for the parents." It is that, but it is so much more! Recent research and feedback from parents have found that having a Christian camp experience has been recognized to: 1. improve children's & youth's social skills 2. see young people be willing to try new things 3. help make children healthier by getting outdoors 4. develop leadership skills and healthy independence in young people 5. lead to greater likelihood of staying connected with their faith 6. increase confidence and self-esteem 7. serve as a great place of fun, friends and memories for a lifetime SO! If this is what a young person gets from a camp experience, it makes complete sense why it is a priority for a family to ensure their kids get this type of experience each year! And this is why Cherith has existed for over 70 years - to be an affordable Christian camp in the beautiful Grey Bruce area providing a positive, safe and high quality life-changing experience for the next generation! The best kind of work is where your values (what you believe) and your emotional drives (what energizes you) all come together. I wake up every day, grateful for my work, which challenges and delights and helps others shape a better world. And I’m so glad and proud that Ascent Leadership Networks, LLC enables me to volunteer for organizations that do the same. Every year, my family and I spend a week supporting the New England Hemophilia Association’s camp for people and families with bleeding disorders, a life-threatening chronic condition. This week reminds me of the best that I see in Ascent, and challenges me to see more deeply: * at Ascent, I see people coming together, building community, sharing knowledge , expertise and mutual support to help each other reach their goals. At Family Camp, I see people breaking their armor open, sharing their fears, their triumphs and their hidden hopes with strangers. There, a caring heart, a listening ear - and trust - matters more than any expertise or knowledge. * At Ascent, I see leaders push themselves beyond their perceived limits, growing into the people they want to be in the world. At Family Camp, I see children and young adults doing the same, pushing past fear, learning to use needles to give themselves their medicine, unlocking a life lived with a disorder - but not ruled by it. *At Ascent, we teach leaders to listen inclusively, and learn from the people around them. At Family Camp, I see young adults adapting to neurodiverse campers with a range of medical challenges, creating safe, caring spaces. Creating families of choice. Every year, Family Camp reminds me how much is possible - and to never underestimate the possibility in another person. If a 5 year old child can conquer their fear of needles, then how much more might be possible? #volunteer #chronicIllness #BleedingDisorders #leadership #development #community #possibility #joy
