Over 90% of youth in the juvenile justice system have experienced trauma, with most reporting multiple traumatic incidents. At the same time, approximately 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. shelters annually, with around 390,000 facing euthanasia despite the fact that 65% find forever homes through adoption. UnChained’s Canines Teaching Compassion (CTC) program is creating second chances where they’re needed most. By training shelter dogs for adoption, at-risk youth develop critical skills, confidence, and compassion. These youth are not just participants—they’re change-makers, transforming their own lives and the lives of vulnerable animals.
