The best kind of work is where your values (what you believe) and your emotional drives (what energizes you) all come together. I wake up every day, grateful for my work, which challenges and delights and helps others shape a better world. And I’m so glad and proud that Ascent Leadership Networks, LLC enables me to volunteer for organizations that do the same. Every year, my family and I spend a week supporting the New England Hemophilia Association’s camp for people and families with bleeding disorders, a life-threatening chronic condition. This week reminds me of the best that I see in Ascent, and challenges me to see more deeply: * at Ascent, I see people coming together, building community, sharing knowledge , expertise and mutual support to help each other reach their goals. At Family Camp, I see people breaking their armor open, sharing their fears, their triumphs and their hidden hopes with strangers. There, a caring heart, a listening ear - and trust - matters more than any expertise or knowledge. * At Ascent, I see leaders push themselves beyond their perceived limits, growing into the people they want to be in the world. At Family Camp, I see children and young adults doing the same, pushing past fear, learning to use needles to give themselves their medicine, unlocking a life lived with a disorder - but not ruled by it. *At Ascent, we teach leaders to listen inclusively, and learn from the people around them. At Family Camp, I see young adults adapting to neurodiverse campers with a range of medical challenges, creating safe, caring spaces. Creating families of choice. Every year, Family Camp reminds me how much is possible - and to never underestimate the possibility in another person.
