Let's play... "we're going to create a circular, local and bio-based textile ecosystem, and on this journey we will need...." Did you ever play this game, sitting in a circle at school? Together you and your friends built a shopping list or a holiday packing list, building gradually with each new suggestion, having to actively listen and make connections so that you might remember the whole... I'm taking this 'play' to a new context in our HEREWEAR workshop on Wednesday... Most of the dissemination work for the HUB, has involved engagement: conversations, walk- throughs, workshops to show people how they can connect to the diverse content and to one another. A resource won't be impactful unless teachers, leaders and advocates can first see how they might use it and how it can bring meaning and value to their community. This workshop is only 1 hour, but through it, participants from across the textile ecosystem will be able to become acquainted with, and co-explore the resource, learn about one another and how they might begin a bio-based, local and circular journey together. If you can't come to ECOSYSTEX, but would like this training for your community please get in touch! University of the Arts London
Wrap up the second day of the ECOSYSTEX Conference by discovering the HEREWEAR HUB✨ In a hands-on workshop led by Rosie Hornbuckle, a research fellow in complex design collaborations from the University of the Arts London (UAL), on-site participants will dive into designing and networking your transition to bio-based, local, and circular textiles using the HEREWEAR HUB’s resources gaining practical information and tools for advancing sustainable textile innovation 🌿 Additionally, if you are joining us in Milan, you'll get explore thematic tours conducted by Centexbel, University of the Arts London and TCBL Association, and choose from three key themes to experience showcased HEREWEAR materials, prototypes, and resources: 🍃 Bio-Based Materials ♻️Circular Design 🏡Local Models Register now for the ECOSYSTEX Conference and secure your online spot for hybrid sessions⬇ https://lnkd.in/eFG6s3ww

🗣️“More effective cleaning and care of clothing will help increase its durability”, as explained by Lutz Walter, founder and director of the The European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing (Textile ETP). 🔵 The Textile ETP is the largest European open expert network of professionals involved in textile- and clothing-related research and innovation, of which Girbau LAB is a member. 🗣️Lutz talks about the transformation of the textile industry: from raw materials, design, production systems, distribution, and the use of clothing. He provides interesting reflections on the durability of garments, the emotional connection people have with their clothes, and care as an effective solution to increase durability and promote reuse. This article is part of the interview series that we organized together with So Good to give voice to different players of the textile sector to generate discussion about the phase of use of textiles as a key to a more circular industry. Slowly but surely, big names start to make moves towards greener industry practices, introducing not only innovations to help tackle manufacturing issues, such as waste and landfill pollutants but also by developing alternative materials to reduce the impact of what’s still to be produced! In the last months of 2023, Ganni A/S partnered with the London-based biotech company Modern Synthesis to develop a one-off edition of its iconic Bou Bag made from bacterial nanocellulose, a textile that, according to them, drapes much like cowhide a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions than real leather. 😳 Jen Keane, co-founder and CEO of Modern Synthesis said: "Brand-innovator partnerships are a critical step towards integrating novel technologies in the fashion supply chain." "Showpieces like the Ganni A/S Bou Bag made with our biotextile are pivotal in evaluating the workability of new materials, paving the way for their eventual integration into everyday fashion. This, in turn, attracts crucial investment in biomaterials, accelerating the transition from one-off showpieces to commercial collections." A year after ITMA Milan 2023, the profound impact of the exhibition still resonates within the textile manufacturing community. The event illuminated pivotal trends such as automation, digital transformation, and sustainability—key elements that are shaping the future of our industry and bolstering its long-term growth and resilience. At Cedro Textil, we have not only embraced these insights but have actively integrated them into a significant retrofit of one of our dyeing machines. This initiative has notably enhanced our productivity, enabling faster processing speeds. Additionally, we've made substantial strides in sustainability: achieving significant reductions in water usage which drastically lightens the load on our effluent treatment systems, and cutting back on chemical usage, thereby decreasing our carbon footprint. A human-centric approach was a cornerstone of this project, focusing on enhancing operator control, comfort, and understanding of the process. This strategy not only lifted operational efficiency but also facilitated a seamless transition to the new system, requiring minimal training and achieving high staff engagement, reflecting principles of Industry 5.0, which emphasizes the integration of human ingenuity with technological advancements. The decision to retrofit the existing machine, rather than replace it, was a strategic choice, considering time, cost, and the opportunity to leverage existing infrastructure. This approach exemplifies a strong commitment to ESG principles, transforming an older machine into a modern, more efficient system. By opting for retrofitting, we not only extend the life of existing assets but also minimize waste and the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new equipment. This thoughtful use of resources underlines our dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices, showcasing how technological upgrades can align with ESG goals to create a greener, more sustainable operation. The retrofit was completed in an impressively short span, with the machine out of operation for only a brief period. Reflecting on ITMA Milan, it’s evident that our proactive approach to embracing and integrating advanced technologies not only safeguards our operations against future challenges but also cements our position as industry leaders. I am immensely proud of the progress we've made at Cedro Textil, demonstrating that with the right vision and execution, significant operational improvements and substantial environmental benefits are well within reach. #TBT #ITMA #TextileManufacturing #CedroTextil #Sustainability #Automation #DigitalTransformation #Industry5_0 #ESGInitiatives

We are excited to announce that our project in collaboration with Cassie Quinn of CQ Studio. 🙌 has been selected as one the projects of the EU’s WORTH Partnership Project of the 3rd call. WORTH Partnership Project is funded by European Commission, EASME, under the Programme for the Competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises aiming to encourage entrepreneurship, give access to financial funding, provide market exposure and create better framework conditions for competitiveness. Our aim is to develop an end-to-end process for manufacturing regenerative bio-skin, exploring the use of hemp fibers and agricultural waste streams to produce bio-skin sheets free of harmful chemicals, toxic dyes, plastics, and large amounts of water. 👩🔬 This collaboration is fundamental in demonstrating how next-generation materials can unite with traditional craftsmanship, ensuring that heritage techniques are not lost with the implementation of new technologies. We aim for this project to set a precedent for regenerative design in the textile industry, with potential applications in fashion, interiors, home goods, and more. Our ultimate goal with WORTH Partnership Project is to create regenerative, plastic-free bio-skins, with a functional and scalable manufacturing model ready to launch to the market. Additionally, we will develop a collection of these bio-skins with various finishes, colors, and textures, always maintaining the technical and aesthetic functionalities typical of CANUSSA LAB. 💪 #WorthPartnershipProject #RegenerativeMaterials #SustainableFashion #CircularFashion
