Dr. Alan Hudd, CEO & founder, Alchemie Technology Ltd, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, U.K., presents, “Bringing Digital Textile Dyeing to the USA – A Sneak Peak at Future of Textiles” at today’s IMI & Alchemie Digital Textile Manufacturing Technologies Conference at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton SouthPark in #Charlotte, N.C. The fashion industry is the world's second largest producer of industrial wastewater discharge, Dr. Hudd said. In today’s textile industry, traditional dyeing methods remain widespread despite growing environmental and economic pressures, he said. Conventional processes, characterized by their extensive water usage, high chemical consumption and significant waste production, continue to dominate due to entrenched practices and infrastructure, he said. Despite growing interest in sustainable practices, it is estimated that less than 80% of textile and apparel brands still use traditional dyeing methods, and less than 15% of textile brands have adopted sustainable dyeing technologies such as digital printing or closed-loop systems, Dr. Hudd added. In South Asia, traditional dyeing methods are even more prevalent, suggesting more than 90% of textile production uses conventional methods, he continued. He then announced the introduction of technology that was borne out of and from the principle of inkjet. Developed to be a precise application solution. Alchemie combines a large droplet size and high droplet velocity to deliver unrivalled penetration into the textile.
