Happy Halloween! 🎃 (A friendly note! The following story is satire and fully fictional. So there is no reason to get angry because this just doesn’t exist in reality….) Here is the feast of scary characters, but there are some characters you’d like to avoid at all times. Meet Mr. Draincula, our hero whose aim is to take our souls to deliver his own agenda. In this story it is he/him, but the character is able to appear in any gender. He can live anywhere in the organisation and influence many teams and individuals. He is known to create teams with high morale, loyalty, efficiency and productivity. He has been in the business so long and has always contributed successfully. He has a reputation of getting the most out of teams. His methods are best in class and have been proven to work for over decades. Teams under his influence have experienced short-term success. If they haven’t it’s not because of him and his methods. Teams are just lazy and get dismantled likely sooner than later. Are you ready to learn and follow the master? Here are Draincula’s 6 rules to create efficient teams:

I’d add, for creatives: ▪️Do make art that invites your audience to put in work. Don’t dumb down your message. ▪️Do take chances with various styles. Don’t forget you need no permission to do so. ▪️Do save the bulk of your trust for your voice. Don’t allot but a bare minimum for buzz. ▪️Do trust your process. Don’t forget you got there by listening.
The million-dollar lesson Kendrick Lamar taught us this year: You don’t have to be the loudest in the room to have the biggest impact. While Drake trolled Kendrick on the internet for weeks… While people criticized Kendrick for taking too long to respond… While people questioned if Kendrick was even a worthy opponent for Drake…. Kendrick was silently strategizing. He built a genius-level strategy that: ✅ Made hip hop fans question Drake's morals, integrity, and authenticity ✅ Kept us on the edge of our seats for 3-months straight– capitalizing on major holidays ✅ Sparked conversations (how many of you had to break the beef down to your families because it was just THAT hot of a topic?) ✅ Created a bop of the summer that will go down in hip-hop history Oh, and the kicker? Kendrick hasn’t said a word. Not a tweet. Not an interview. Just music. When you have the talent, it speaks for itself.

You must be where action is happening. Life is a theatre. If you are not an actor, you must be where the actors are. Whatever industry you are in, you must associate with people who call shots in that industry. You can't afford to be at the bottom of the food chain or at the periphery and expect to be great. You must associate with the people who make things move in your industry through service or collaboration. Be where they are! Move cities, change hobbies, enrol in those clubs, attend those conferences, do business or contribute content. Just do something to associate with movers & shakers of your industry . That's what will propel you to great heights faster than your resources, papers or expertise. Have a Winning Wednesday.

Watch this video. Who really made this play happen? This video came to me recently of a great play that happened 40 years ago in 1984. Two of my Gator teammates made this play that broke the game wide open in our favor. However, the average fan was oblivious of all that took place among those five offensive linemen in front of the quarterback which made the play possible. I was down in middle of that mass of humanity 40 years ago (Number #60 offensive guard) The offensive line must block and protect so that an offensive play can be executed. A game is usually won down in the trenches in a violent interaction between the offensive and defensive fronts. The offensive lineman doesn’t have any stats and fans are not cheering for them individually as you see in this video clip. The only recognition is from his coaches, teammates and some media who understands the lineman’s role. His job is to make other players look good without the spotlight! It’s a selfless mindset that the fraternity of offensive linemen take pride in helping others get the accolades on the team. How would this same mindset affect your business, organization, department, church, or in a home? Someone has said, “The credit is immaterial as long as the cause is advanced.” So my question is, have you stop and thanked the “offensive linemen types” that are in your life? Who are the people that work behind-the-scenes and go unnoticed? Take a moment of time and express your gratitude to them. Most likely they are not looking for any recognition or praise but just doing their job well is satisfaction enough. A sincere “Thank you” from you will go a long way. It still doesn’t cost anything to be nice!

We've worked in entertainment for longer than I care to admit. Since our early days of Captain America (the first one) and How to Train Your Dragon (yup, the first one) we've gone on to work on over 300 (at least - we stopped counting!) campaigns around the world. There is no better way to get your audience's attention than to deliver work that entertains. Our latest insight report, 'For Your Entertainment', looks into the marketing levers that can help you be the best at entertaining. Get inspired to be distinctive. "Don't you know that every kick is a boost?" <- what Rue McClanahan's (Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls) mother said after Rue was told she would never work on television. Golden Girls, of course, went on to win numerous awards and continues to play on television 40 years later. What is the lesson from this? One takeaway for me is that someone else's opinion of your capabilities is not prophetic. You CAN be successful regardless of others' opinions. Secondly, rejection and setbacks are an inevitable part of your career journey. Use these setbacks as springboards to take you to greater heights. Lastly, may we all do our best to give more boosts. Hopefully, without the kicks included. You can see the full speech here: https://lnkd.in/gz-bsF9g

Lady Gaga was dropped from her first record label. Stephen King received 60 rejection letters before publishing his first short story. Oprah Winfrey was told she was unfit for television news. But today’s blog isn’t about any of those people. It’s about Cookie the Pug. Outwardly, there’s nothing overtly exceptional about Cookie (other than being a darn cute dog). The thing that’s notable – exceptional even – about Cookie the Pug is that she loves agility training. That’s right, with those short-as-ever legs and that stout little body, she loves to do all the things agility training requires: running up and down planks, dashing left and right between poles, and everything in between. So what’s the lesson here? Lady Gaga, I’ve been told by a friend who is her saxophonist, holds a singular focus for making her visions realities – so it’s no wonder getting dropped from her first record label didn’t deter her in the slightest. Stephen King loved to write and was determined to make it as a writer, even after 60+ rejection letters. Oprah Winfrey has overcome numerous incredible obstacles to get where she is today. Yes, being born into cushy circumstances can of course make things easier – but it’s not our circumstances that ultimately decide whether or not we succeed. In the end, it’s all about desire, determination, and sheer will. So if you want to be a pianist, don’t worry about your short stubby fingers. If you want to be a basketball player, don’t worry about your lack of height. If you want to be a business owner, don’t worry about your lack of organization. Just remember Cookie the Pug. And go after whatever it is you love to do. #determination #cookiethepug #agilitydog #ellanyze

💡 Sean’s Tuesday Thought: We need more people to be like crescent wrenches. Consider the example set by Charles Lindbergh back in May of 1927. He achieved the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris in under 34 hours. Among the few things he requested for this monumental journey were fuel, sandwiches, a few tools, and most notably, a crescent wrench. Unlike a standard half-inch or ten-millimeter wrench, the crescent wrench was adjustable and versatile. Its flexibility made it indispensable. 👉 As we navigate challenging times, it’s crucial to embrace flexibility and adaptability. Just as the crescent wrench adjusts to fit any situation, we too must be adaptable. #leadwithyourheart #keeppushingforward This was episode four of The Friday Feature.

There is so much B.S. about what it takes to have a successful solo biz. Let me set a few things straight; 🚫You don't need to be all things to all people. 🚫You don't need to let random people book time in your calendar. 🚫You won't sell more if you reduce your prices. 🚫 Withholding how much it costs to work with you will scare people away. 🚫You don't need a massive following or to go viral. 🚫You can not convince someone to work with you by following up with them 5 times.. There are so many more myths we need to shatter. This is what I will be doing throughout "solopronieur summer." What did I miss? Let me know in the comments below. ⬇ ⬇
