Steer is proud to announce our collaboration with Transport for the South East to support pioneering work on forecasting EV charging demand from commercial fleets. 🚗 Commercial vehicles may be a smaller part of the UK's fleet, but they drive a larger share of miles and emit a significant amount of greenhouse gases. Commercial fleets are projected to consume nearly half of the energy required for e-road transport. However, the electrification of these fleets is hindered by the lack of reliable, conveniently located, and cost-effective public charging resources. 🚚 Calling all #MHDEV stakeholders! 🚛 Comments on the Federal Highway Administration's Request for Information (RFI) from stakeholders about electric vehicle (EV) charging technologies and infrastructure needs for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles are due next Tuesday, November 12. The RFI seeks input in four areas to support MHDEVs: 🔋 1) unique EV charger and station needs; ⚡ 2) vehicle charging patterns; 🔌3) charging technology and standardization, and 👷♀️ 4) workforce, supply chain, and manufacturing to support charging of medium- and heavy-duty battery EVs in DOT vehicle classes four through eight, which include delivery vans, school buses, semi-tractor trucks, fire trucks, dump trucks, and tour buses. Interesting new study into the charging requirements to enable electric long haul truck operations across Europe The number of estimated MCS charging stations that would be required is less than previously calculated and this study also doesn't take into account depot charging Some of the numbers are a little eye watering - 12 Gigawatts of power will be required at some sites to support 20 MCS chargers! Can lamppost and bollard charging help Local Authorities meet OZEVs ambitious targets? 🤔   Stuart Wilson, ubitricity’s UK Market Unit Lead, dives into the crucial question for Current-news.co.uk   🔋 With the launch of the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate in early 2024, the UK government proposed one of the most ambitious regulatory frameworks for the switch to electric vehicles (EVs) of any country in the world. The ZEV mandate will require 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold to be zero emission by 2030, and 100% by 2035.   🚗 As EV adoption continues to grow, these targets emphasize the urgent need for local authorities to roll out accessible and convenient charging infrastructure.
