A friend just challenged me on why it will take two years to "build a plug" 😂 Now that I've sent a few choice words his way 🤣 here are 5 examples of what happens next ⬇️ 1. Megawatt charging ⚡ Nobody in the world has a commercial MW charger live right now, but it is tantalisingly within the reach of current tech. Prototypes will go through testing, refinement and then roll out. 2. Grid Connection ↔️ Truck charging is a classic of 'go big or go home'. We're talking about the power of a small town here and that takes time to establish. 3. Planning Permission 📃 Any major development rightly requires scrutiny and approval from relevent authorities, and we will invest the time and effrort required to get that right. 4. Long lead items 🏗️ For example, everyone in the world wants transformers at the moment as they power the energy transition. We have an excellent supply chain but even that has limits! 5. Safe construction 👷♀️ Once everything is lined up we still need to actually build it 😀 We have hundreds of superb electrical and civil engineers on sites across Europe and our number 1 priority is that everyone goes home safe and unharmed. Once that is all done and the site goes live you'll be able charge up an electric HGV here, pop through the tunnnel and have enough range to make Rotterdam, Paris or Dusseldorf. Decarbonising heavy transport is incredibly hard, but we will do it, and this is how. #energytransition #evcharging #truckcharging #trucks

E.ON and MAN to Establish Public Charging Network for Electric Trucks Across Europe E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus have joined hands for the charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles in Germany and Europe. Through their new partnership, the energy company and commercial vehicle manufacturer plan to establish approximately 170 locations with around 400 stations for public charging of electric trucks across Europe. E.ON and MAN are jointly investing in these new charging stations, which will be integrated into the existing MAN service network and will also accommodate commercial vehicles from other manufacturers. Charging ahead: Electric trucks are here to stay .....   A dearth of charging infrastructure has often been cited as a major obstacle in convincing truck manufacturers to ramp up the production of zero-emission, electrically powered heavy-duty vehicles (eHDV). Other factors impeding their development include their limited operational range, payload restrictions, and higher running costs compared to diesel-powered models. It is difficult to get a clear picture of how many electric trucks are currently on the roads but what is not in doubt is that their number is extremely modest when compared to the market as a whole. The International Energy Agency (IEA) indicated in its latest Global EV Outlook that in 2022, 60,000 medium- and heavy-duty trucks were sold worldwide, representing only 1.2% of total truck sales. According to estimates published by business consulting and service firm, Markets and Markets, the global electric truck market totaled 101,499 units in 2022 and is projected to grow to 1,067,985 units by 2030. In the US, analysis by the Environmental Defense Fund revealed that almost 13,000 medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks have been put into service across the nation in the past four years – more than 10,000 in 2023 alone. Electric Cars & Trucks Save Fleet Operators 9% On Operating Costs "RMI analyzed data using the Dashboard for Rapid Vehicle Electrification. The result? Electric vehicles have a 9% lower total cost of ownership than equivalent fossil fuel vehicles, even when the cost of charging infrastructure is included. There are intangible benefits as well. Switching to electric vehicles eliminates 100% of tailpipe emissions and over 75% of climate pollution from vehicles when including the upstream emissions of electricity generation."
