Interesting new study into the charging requirements to enable electric long haul truck operations across Europe The number of estimated MCS charging stations that would be required is less than previously calculated and this study also doesn't take into account depot charging Some of the numbers are a little eye watering - 12 Gigawatts of power will be required at some sites to support 20 MCS chargers! Expansion of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure for Heavy-Duty Trucks in California The availability of accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging tailored for trucks in the US is limited, as most electric truck fleets rely on their charging infrastructure at their home bases. However, the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach ports plan to invest $25 million in charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric drayage trucks. This initiative is part of a larger $135 million effort to expand California's charging station network for commercial EVs. The plans include up to 207 charging stalls across the Los Angeles area and a charging corridor from Los Angeles to Las Vegas along Interstate 15. Charging up the UK’s EV transition Mike Cafferky, Operations Director of OCU Evolution, discusses the challenges and opportunities that come with ensuring the UK’s electric vehicle (EV) transition remains in full swing. In the piece, Mike says: “The first “real” electric vehicle (EV) was introduced to roads in the US in 1888, meaning we’ve had over 100 years of automotive advancements to weigh up their potential as the natural successor to fossil fuel powered vehicles. Despite this, it’s only recently that demand for EVs to become the main form of transportation has intensified. This is due to a series of policies and commitments introduced by the Government, which have been designed to support the UK’s move to net zero by 2050. To meet this target, the UK needs a radical reduction in the burning of fossil fuels, phasing out some of the biggest emitters, petrol and diesel cars, and replacing them with cleaner, more sustainable electric vehicles (EVs). Businesses need to view the adoption and integration of EVs as an essential process and not something that is merely a consideration……..
