In this week's #FAQ, Kory Schroeder, Director of Marketing and Product Engineering at Stackpole Electronics, answers the question: "What is current noise or electrical noise?" Answer: "Current noise is random and spontaneous unwanted signals in an electrical circuit.  They can be caused by a wide variety of things ranging from fluctuations in voltage or current to variations in electron motion and flow, or from electrical impulses coupled from nearby circuits.  Current noise in resistors is a function of the resistive element material, as well as the design and construction and is typically more of a problem for circuits with large variations in current, voltage, or temperature and especially for communications systems."

Join Andrea Righi, Principal Software Engineer, NVIDIA on Wednesday, October 2 at 9:00am PDT for an interactive, complimentary Mentorship Session exploring: “Speeding Up Kernel Development With virtme-ng”. A significant portion of kernel development time is usually dedicated to testing and debugging kernels, a process that can be frustratingly slow. Unlike user-space applications, where a fast edit/compile/test cycle is common, kernel testing requires deploying a test system (either bare-metal or VM), installing the recompiled kernel, running tests, collecting results, and then repeating the process. Bugs can further delay this process, often requiring reboots or even system redeployments. virtme-ng aims to provide a standardized way for kernel developers to expedite the edit/compile/test cycle. It leverages QEMU/KVM, virtiofs, and overlayfs to boot a recompiled kernel (or any kernel image) inside a virtualized copy-on-write (CoW) live snapshot of the current system. This approach allows developers to simply ""fork"" their system with a new kernel, creating a secure sandbox for testing that offers performance close to native execution, without the need for dedicated testing systems. In this webinar, we will demonstrate how to use virtme-ng for rapid kernel testing and debugging, with practical examples and common kernel development scenarios. We've been doing a lot of work around robotics, automation, and other wafer handling hardware. Prior to hardware failure, predictive maintenance can help to target hardware issues, prior to catastrophic failure. This does come into play in situations where we do in-fab contract service. The balance between predictive maintenance and overly sensitive data signals is one of those things that maintenance teams and tools designers have to wrestle with. During post repair test, we also have to work with electrical performance, vibrational noise, and motion speed. The same issue exists, having to balance a robust test versus noise. Current analysis for robotic failure, from a 2022 article in the Journal of Computational Design and Engineering:
