If you are using Blooms to organize and design your elearning modules, (or unit plans for those in education)... Feel free to play around with the order. Although Blooms builds from gaining understanding to analyzing and creating in a set order, no one is saying you can't mix in a few of the same tiers throughout the module/unit. This also breaks up the monotony and helps learners master concepts and skills. Then include opportunities for them to reflect on their learning and share what they have gained. #education #elearning #design #learninganddevelopment #LXD #learning

“Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister As someone who is passionate about education, learning, and creating impactful experiences, this course has helped hone my skills in designing effective and engaging learning materials. Here are some key takeaways from the course: 🛠️ ADDIE Framework: I learned how to use this foundational model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) to create structured, learner-centered experiences. 🎯 Learning Objectives: Crafting clear, measurable learning outcomes ensures that both the designer and the learner are aligned from the start. 📊 Assessment Design: Understanding the difference between formative and summative assessments has deepened my ability to measure and track learner progress more effectively. 🎮 Engagement Techniques: Exploring how to use gamification and interactive learning to keep learners motivated and invested in their development. 💻 eLearning Tools: I got hands-on experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other tools that make virtual learning accessible and impactful. This course has given me a strong foundation to not only design instructional materials that work but to truly create learning experiences that stick with people long after the course is over. I’m excited to continue applying these skills in my professional journey and help others learn, grow, and thrive! 🌱 #InstructionalDesign #LearningExperienceDesign #ProfessionalDevelopment #eLearning #ADDIE #LMS #LearningAndDevelopment #CourseCompleted #LifeLongLearning Just finished the course “Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister! Have you ever taken an eLearning where you sailed through the training and aced the quizzes on your first attempt? Did you retain information from that experience? Have you taken an online course and the quizzes were a bit difficult to pass on your first attempt? Were you able to retain the information from that experience? Instructional designers take this in to account when they are designing these courses. This quote perfectly captures the essence of engaging adult learners. They crave practical application, not just information dumps. But how do you translate those engaging classroom experiences into the digital world? This can be tricky with an eLearning course, but not impossible! Here's the secret sauce: problem-solving. Yes, even in an eLearning, you can ditch the boring lectures and turn learning into a discovery adventure. Here are two of my go-to strategies: 1. Show, Don't Tell: Instead of spoon-feeding information, let learners uncover it themselves. Use realistic scenarios and case studies to paint a picture. This way, they become active participants, not passive recipients. ️ 2. Interactive Knowledge Checks: Get creative with think drag-and-drop activities, matching exercises, or even scenario builders. My favorite tool for this? Articulate's scenario builder – it's a game-changer! Bonus Tip: Don't forget the power of real-world application, so you can also assign some post-training tasks for the learner to complete out in the real world once the course is over. Intrigued by the world of eLearning design, but want to dive deeper? I've got a resource packed with what you need to know before creating eLearning courses specifically for adults. DESIGN FOR FORGETTING — Most eLearning courses focus on gaining immediate knowledge, but research shows that learners forget up to 70% of new information within 24 hours. Instead of cramming content, design your eLearning to embrace forgetting. Introduce key concepts, then strategically space out repetitions and apply variations of the content over time. Use micro-assessments to trigger recall just before learners are likely to forget. This approach, known as SPACED REPETITION, aligns with how our brains naturally retain information, turning short-term memories into long-term knowledge. In a recent course I developed, I applied this technique by consistently reinforcing the critical first step of 'staying calm' across multiple scenarios, while varying the other steps based on the situation. This strategic repetition wasn't just a design choice—it was a deliberate method to ensure that learners instinctively prioritize calmness in real-world challenges, enhancing both retention and practical application. 😀 #SpacedRepetition #eLearning #DesignForForgetting #eLearningExperience

In instructional design, trust is everything. It’s about earning the confidence of stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) so you can access the vital information needed to craft effective courses. When these key players trust you, you can develop learning solutions that are both accurate and impactful.
