DESIGN FOR FORGETTING — Most eLearning courses focus on gaining immediate knowledge, but research shows that learners forget up to 70% of new information within 24 hours. Instead of cramming content, design your eLearning to embrace forgetting. Introduce key concepts, then strategically space out repetitions and apply variations of the content over time. Use micro-assessments to trigger recall just before learners are likely to forget. This approach, known as SPACED REPETITION, aligns with how our brains naturally retain information, turning short-term memories into long-term knowledge. In a recent course I developed, I applied this technique by consistently reinforcing the critical first step of 'staying calm' across multiple scenarios, while varying the other steps based on the situation. This strategic repetition wasn't just a design choice—it was a deliberate method to ensure that learners instinctively prioritize calmness in real-world challenges, enhancing both retention and practical application. 😀 #SpacedRepetition #eLearning #DesignForForgetting #eLearningExperience

Goethe’s wisdom reminds us that true learning goes beyond books and lectures. It's about taking knowledge and putting it into action. In the world of elearning, this means incorporating interactive and practical elements into our courses. Whether it's through simulations, real-life projects, or hands-on activities, applying what you’ve learned in real-world scenarios is key. Interactive modules, case studies, and virtual labs are just a few ways to make elearning experiences engaging and effective. For instance, a course on digital marketing might include a project where learners create and manage their own mock marketing campaign. By focusing on practical application, we not only enhance retention but also prepare learners to excel in real-life situations. Embrace hands-on experiences to make your elearning journey impactful and memorable! 🚀🌟 #ElearningGold #annettelevesque #education #distanceeducation #elearning #PracticalLearning #ApplyKnowledge #LifelongLearning

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 Keeping your learners engaged throughout an eLearning course is crucial for its success. Here’s a simple framework you can use to motivate your learners at each stage: ✔️ Before the course: Lay a strong foundation by clearly communicating goals and expectations. Explain the value the course will bring and take the time to understand your learners’ needs and backgrounds. Knowing your audience not only helps tailor the experience but also builds immediate buy-in from the start. ✔️ During the course: Engagement doesn’t stop after the first module. Keep learners invested with interactive activities, real-time feedback, and a variety of instructional strategies. Make sure the content is accessible to everyone—this allows learners to stay active and feel included, no matter their learning style or pace. Encouraging communication also creates a dynamic, collaborative environment where learners feel supported. ✔️ After the course: The learning journey doesn’t end when the course does! Celebrate accomplishments and reinforce the key takeaways that will be useful going forward. By recognizing progress and offering practical takeaways, you leave learners with a lasting sense of achievement and motivation to apply what they've learned. #elearning #learninganddevelopment #motivation #continuouslearning #instructionaldesign

Eye-Catching eLearning Isn't Enough: Focus on Results. In the L&D world, there's a tendency to focus on creating slick, engaging eLearning modules. But is that really what matters most? While a well-designed course can be captivating, the true measure of success lies in achieving the desired learning outcomes. Here's how to shift the focus: * Start with the end in mind. Clearly define what you want learners to achieve after completing the course. * Focus on application. Don't just impart knowledge; equip learners with the skills to apply it in real-world scenarios. * Measure impact. Track whether the course is effectively bridging the gap between learning and performance. By prioritizing results over aesthetics, we can ensure that our eLearning efforts truly translate into positive business impact. #elearning #learninganddevelopment #performancemanagement

If you are using Blooms to organize and design your elearning modules, (or unit plans for those in education)... Feel free to play around with the order. Although Blooms builds from gaining understanding to analyzing and creating in a set order, no one is saying you can't mix in a few of the same tiers throughout the module/unit. This also breaks up the monotony and helps learners master concepts and skills. Then include opportunities for them to reflect on their learning and share what they have gained. #education #elearning #design #learninganddevelopment #LXD #learning
