But how do you translate those engaging classroom experiences into the digital world? This can be tricky with an eLearning course, but not impossible! Here's the secret sauce: problem-solving. Yes, even in an eLearning, you can ditch the boring lectures and turn learning into a discovery adventure. Here are two of my go-to strategies: 1. Show, Don't Tell: Instead of spoon-feeding information, let learners uncover it themselves. Use realistic scenarios and case studies to paint a picture. This way, they become active participants, not passive recipients. ️ 2. Interactive Knowledge Checks: Get creative with think drag-and-drop activities, matching exercises, or even scenario builders. My favorite tool for this? Articulate's scenario builder – it's a game-changer! Here’s a simple framework you can use to motivate your learners at each stage: ✔️ Before the course: Lay a strong foundation by clearly communicating goals and expectations. Explain the value the course will bring and take the time to understand your learners’ needs and backgrounds. Knowing your audience not only helps tailor the experience but also builds immediate buy-in from the start. ✔️ During the course: Engagement doesn’t stop after the first module. Keep learners invested with interactive activities, real-time feedback, and a variety of instructional strategies. Make sure the content is accessible to everyone—this allows learners to stay active and feel included, no matter their learning style or pace. DESIGN FOR FORGETTING — Most eLearning courses focus on gaining immediate knowledge, but research shows that learners forget up to 70% of new information within 24 hours. Instead of cramming content, design your eLearning to embrace forgetting. Introduce key concepts, then strategically space out repetitions and apply variations of the content over time. Use micro-assessments to trigger recall just before learners are likely to forget. This approach, known as SPACED REPETITION, aligns with how our brains naturally retain information, turning short-term memories into long-term knowledge. In a recent course I developed, I applied this technique by consistently reinforcing the critical first step of 'staying calm' across multiple scenarios, while varying the other steps based on the situation.
